The center will carry out a security assessment of chopper activities in the Chardham Yatra after another incident in the area, sources said line.

The safety assessment comes after a wave of chopper-related incidents has occurred. In such an incident, a helicopter crashed close to Gangotri and killed six people, while on 12 May a chopper knife hit a car in Badrinath Helipad.

Sources claimed that operators overload their helicopters to maximize profit, despite strict safety standards by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Moreover, the DGCA has stationed a regulating team in Sahastradhara Helidrome in Dehradun to check the chopper activities.

Sources told Businessline that the regulator has landed heavily on chopper operators and performs operations on the spot.

“The DGCA teams have worked around the clock to ensure that the safety standards are followed. If necessary, the regulator will be taken stricter steps to ensure absolute compliance with the safety standards,” sources told at Businessline.

“If expiration is found, hefty fines are imposed by the DGCA.”

The Chardham Yatra includes pilgrimage to shrines such as Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath between May-June and September-ACTOBER.

Recently, these helicopter services have grown in popularity and offer a faster and more comfortable option to visit the four holy shrines of Uttarakhand because they avoid long overland trips.

The pilgrimage of Chardham by helicopter can be completed within three to five days.

A travel package, according to an insider from the industry, includes helicopter flights between Dehradun and the Vier Dhams, VIP temple Darshan -passes, luxury hotels and meals, ground transport from helicopter plates to temples and personalized support.

On average these services cost from £ 1.5 Lakh to £ 10 Lakh, depending on the package that the pilgrim has.
