Weili Dai has built up a career for technical startup after starting tech startup in successful companies. The serial entrepreneur is now ready to business a windfall of one of them: $ 237 million from the current sale of Alphawave IP Group PLC to Qualcomm Inc.
Dai has a interest of 96.3 million shares in the London-Gente Semi-conducting company, which means they are the second largest shareholder. Earlier this month, Qualcomm agreed to buy Alphawave for around $ 2.4 billion cash, in a deal that is expected to be closed in the first quarter of next year.

The deceased husband of Dai, Sehat Sutardja, was appointed in April 2021 as the Alphawave board, the same year that the company in London was mentioned after an IPO of $ 1.2 billion. After he died in September, DAI inherited his interest in the company and became an interim -executive director. Alphawave focuses on increasing the power efficiency and speed of semiconductors.
Dai, born in Shanghai and later raised in California, started her entrepreneurial trip in 1995 when she and Sutardja co-founder of the American chip maker Marvell Technology Inc. After leaving Marvell in 2016 after accounting probes and activist pressure, DAI once again invented himself as a serial tech founder.
She is one of the founders of Singapore -based Silicon Box, an advanced semiconductor packaging company worth $ 1 billion after a financing round last year. She also helped find chip maker Danger Devices Inc. and artificial intelligence agency Meetkai Inc., who has radio presenter Charlamagne Tha God, among his investors.
Other startups that she helped include FLC Technology Group, aimed at the next generation of computer architecture, and DreamBig Semiconductor Inc., which offers solutions for data centers and storage gear, according to her LinkedIn profile. She is also chairman of Lark Health, a startup that uses AI to prevent chronic diseases.
After moving to California with her parents in 1979, DAI ended the high school in San Francisco and later obtained a diploma in computer science at the University of California, Berkeley. Her two older brothers later went to the same university and started their own companies in the US, according to a Chinese media outlet.
Dai and her brothers were part of ‘A Circle of Engineers and Geeks’, she said in an interview in 2021. “And then I met another at the university, my husband, a man with a great passion for building things,” she said in the same interview.
The two sons of Dai and Sutardja, Christopher and Nicholas, both received their Ph.Ds in electrical engineering and computer science, also in Berkeley, according to her LinkedIn.
