Austrian authorities were looking for answers on Wednesday why a 21-year-old shooter killed 10 people in a rampage in his former high school before he committed suicide, one of the worst outbreaks of violence in the modern history of the country.

The police said that the man, armed with a gun and a gun, only traded. They are searching his house and internet for indications why he opened fire on the school in the second city of Graz of Austria on Tuesday before he shoots himself in a bathroom.

The incident was difficult to take in well, said a teacher of religious studies at the school, Paul Nitsche, who left his classroom before the shooter tried to come in, and saw him try to shoot the lock of another door.

“This is something that I couldn’t even imagine, that’s the situation when I ended the stairwell, I thought to myself:” This wasn’t real, “he told National Broadcaster ORF.

Some Austrian media have said that the young man, who was not identified, apparently felt bullied, although the police still have to confirm this. Austrian authorities said that the suspect never completed his studies at the school.

He left a farewell snoot that did not reveal the motive for the attack, the police said, adding that a pipe bomb at his house was not functional.

Franz Ruf, director general of public safety, said that investigations into the motive quickly moved.

“We don’t want to speculate at the moment,” he told ORF on Tuesday evening.

About 17 minutes passed between the first emergency calls received by the police about shots that are fired at the school and the scene is declared safe, Ruf said.

Details of the attack have slowly emerged.

The Austrian police said that victims were found outside and inside the school, on different floors. About a dozen people were injured in the attack, some seriously.
