Information and Public Relations (I & PR) Minister K Parthasarathy
The NDA government guided by TDP in Andhra Pradesh has decided to increase the maximum working hours from nine to 10 a day as part of the convenience of doing business and attracting investors.
The information and public relations (I & PR) Minister K Parthasarathy said that it was decided to change labor laws to make them ‘favorable’ for employees and investors.
CPI State Secretary K Ramakrishna criticized the move and said that NDA governments in the center and the state pursue the policy of ‘anti -employee’.
Important changes
“Section 54 that makes a maximum of nine hours of work possible is now increased to 10 hours a day. According to section 55, there was an hour of rest for five hours (work) now that that has been changed in six hours,” said Parthasarathy recently, which the decisions taken by the government to change the labor laws.
Earlier, Parthasarathy noted that overtime hours were only allowed for a maximum of 75 hours, which has now been extended up to 144 hours per quarter.
“Because of this (changes in the labor laws), investors in factories (coming to our state) will be beneficial for workers and they will invest more. Globalization will take place in every state. These changes have been set to implement global rules,” said Parthasarathy.
Night service relaxation for women
Furthermore, the minister noticed that the government also relaxed the rules for night shifts to enable more women to work in the night shifts.
According to the I&P minister, women were not allowed to work in the night shifts before, but now they can work with guarantees such as permission, transport facility, safety and surveillance.
He said that the workplace of women should be completely illuminated during night shifts.
“If you work extra, income will increase. According to these rules, women in the formal sector can work. They promote women economically and promote gender inclusion and industrial growth. Also contribute to women’s empowerment,” he said.
In the meantime, K Ramakrishna, State Secretary for CPI, opposed the position of the NDA Alliance government on the changes of labor laws. He claimed that the central and national governments work against the interests of employees.
“For the past 11 years, the Modi government has repeatedly taken measures that infringe the rights of employees in India,” Ramakrishan told PTI on Saturday.
To oppose these rules, he said that trade unions decided to protest on 9 July throughout India, and added that all sections will actively participate in this protest.
He also noted that the NDA governments are pursuing both in the center and in the state of ‘anti-worker policy’.
