Defender, Semi Ajayi has become a member of Hull City on a free transfer from West Bromwich Albion.
Ajayi will officially complete his transfer as soon as his contract with West Brom ends the day earlier (30 June), after he has decided to leave the Hawthorns after he scored 13 goals in 177 performances in the last six seasons.
Speaking with Wearehullcity.co.uk about his move, Ajayi is enthusiastic to be part of Hull’s plans for the coming season nadat De Tigers had narrowly avoided relegation with a 1-1 draw on Portsmouth on the last day of last season, albeit helping Luton to send the Hatters instead.
“I am really excited. I spoke with the Sporting Director (Jared Dublin) and Head of Recruitment (Martin Hodge), and they sold me on the vision of the club and the plans for this season.
“The club wants to challenge the top of the competition and that is where I see myself challenging. When I heard the vision, I couldn’t wait to get involved in the project.”
On what he can add to the current team, the 31-year-old continued: “I feel that I can bring know-how, experience and leadership championship. I am comfortable on the ball, good in the air and my pace is an assets that Jared and Martin spoke a lot about.
“We all know how difficult the championship is and I can’t wait to bring part of my experience to the group.
“I really had a good six years at West Brom, but it is exciting to have a new challenge now. I am coming in with a lot of hunger to prove myself again and to do as well as possible as a Hull City player.”
