Dozens of families in Columbia County, New York, will soon receive $ 500 a month through a new guaranteed income program that is aimed at illuminating the financial tension and supporting the development of early childhood.
A new guaranteed income initiative will make financial exemption to dozens of low -income families in Columbia County, New York. Via a partnership between the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation (BTCF) and the Greater Hudson Promise Neighborhood (GHPN), 42 selected families receive $ 500 per month, a total of $ 12,000 per household.
The program is aimed at families with young children and low incomes. To be eligible, applicants in Columbia County Wonen must have at least one child younger than six and do not earn more than 80% of the province’s average income, which is around $ 72,150 for a household with two people.
“This initiative is about more than money – it’s about stability, dignity and opportunities for families during the most important years of a child’s life,” said Kelly Sweet, interim director of philanthropic services at BTCF.
“The simplicity of guaranteed income is powerful – it is direct, effective and rooted in confidence.”
Applications for the program are currently still open, but the deadline is approaching quickly. Families must apply for the BTCF program before 1 July.
Families who meet the fixed criteria are introduced in a lottery system for an opportunity to participate in the program.
According to For BTCF and GHPN, the guaranteed income pilot has been modeled on comparable support efforts nationwide that have already shown positive results.
Programs with comparable models have shown improvements in the physical, mental and relationshipwork of families.
Joan Hunt, executive director of GHPN, emphasized the broader goals of the program in a report of the Our sun.
“This initiative is designed to help families meet the basic needs, to spend more time with their children and to strive for work, education or training for a stronger future,” Hunt said.
GHPN will manage the administrative side of the program and constantly offer support to the selected families in collaboration with BTCF during the 24 months.
The guaranteed income initiative is so promising that similar efforts are underway in cities such as Columbus, Ohio. Supported by non -profit organizations Motherful, Rise Together Innovation Institute and Uptogether, receive 32 single mothers $ 500 monthly in a push to improve financial health and safety for mothers.
As more local governments and non -profit organizations explore guaranteed income models, initiatives such as Columbia County in New York will serve as a blueprint for supporting working families through direct and unconditional financial assistance.
