Two I-Girders launched the 3.15 km Viaduct under the II gait of Chennai Metro Rail in Manapakk crashed on Thursday (June 12, 2025) Night, killing one person who drove a two-wheeler on the road below. Until late night, police personnel and Chennai Metro Rail employees were involved in removing the beams and picking up the person’s body whose identity still had to be known.
Around 9.45 pm the I-Girderen of the viaduct in Manapakkam collapsed. The incident has long resulted in heavy traffic congestion in the area. Chennai Metro Rail has built a double cover corridor on Mount Poonamallee Road. While the viaduct, which connects Mugaliakkam with Miot Hospital, is being built at level 1, the raised route of the Chennai Metro Rail for Corridor 5 (Madhavaram to Sholinganallur) is on level 2.
According to civil servants of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), the beams were launched a week ago for the viaduct work. One of the supporting A-frames made it that the beams fell. Research will be carried out to determine the cause of the collapse, officials said
The length of the I-Roses is 33.3 meters. At the beginning of this month, CMRL launched a U-rayer of 33.3 meters before the viaduct above the viaduct.
