India has posted the fastest growth in social protection of social protection over the past decade, which extended the reach of only 19% of the population in 2015 to 64.3% in 2025, according to data released by the International Labor Organization (ILO).Minister of Labor Mansukh Mandaviya, who spoke in Geneva during the 113rd session of the International Labor Conference (ILC), attributed the expansion to the focused push of the government to “Anthyodaya” – the dedication to reach the last miles and to ensure that no one is lagging behind.India is now in second place in the number of beneficiaries of social protection, with more than 94 Crore people who, under at least one legally supported, cash-based, active regulation, according to the dashboard of the ILO.“This increase marks the fastest expansion of social protection covering worldwide,” said Mandaviya, referring to the recognition of the ILO of India’s performance.The ILO has officially registered India’s 2025 social protection data in the Ilostat database, making India the first country in the world to update its figures for the current year.According to the Ministry of Labor and Employment, the ILO criteria require the inclusion of schemes in global coverage that they are legally required, offer cash benefits, remain active and have verified the data from the past three years.IAO director-general Gilbert F. Houngbo praised the “targeted welfare policy of India for the poor and labor class” under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noted the ministry’s statement.The current 64.3% figure only represents the first phase of efforts for pooling data pools from India, aimed at the central sector and women -oriented regulations in eight -selected States. “With phase II and further consolidation underway, it is expected that the total coverage of India will soon surpass the social protection of social protection,” the ministry added.
