Carlos Alcaraz made a great comeback to win the French open for the second year in a row on Sunday 8 June 2025. The 22-year-old Spaniard had fallen with two sets, but fought back to beat world number one Jannik Sinner in an exciting final of five set.

Alcaraz saved three match points and won 4-6, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (10-2) after five hours and 29 minutes on the field-the longest final in the French open history.

With this victory, Alcaraz now has five Grand Slam titles and remains unbeaten in Grand Slam Finals. He also ended the 20-match winning streak of Sinner in major tournaments.

It was the first time that Alcaraz returned from two sets, which showed incredible determination for the crowd of Paris.

The match was not only historic for its height, but because it was the first Grand Slam final between two players born in the 2000s. Alcaraz is now leading their head-to-head record 8-5.

After losing the first two sets, Alcaraz boarded his game. He broke Sinner’s service and took the third set. In the fourth set he saved three championship points before pushing it to a tie-break, which he won.

In the last set, Alcaraz took an early lead, lost it briefly, but came back strongly to seal the victory in a dramatic tie-break.

Alcaraz places this victory under the great ones – only Bjorn Borg and Rafael Nadal have won five Grand Slam titles at a younger age.

Alcaraz again showed that he is not only the future of tennis – he is already at the top.
