Rohit and Kohli had announced their retirement of the T20i format last year after they had led India to victory in the T20 World Cup in Barbados against South Africa.

In just a week, India’s contemporary icons Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have switched to one -off players within the national team after their announcements of test retirement. Rohit resigned from the Testcaptainincy, together with his retirement last month, while 36-year-old Kohli made a genuine choice to retire on 12 May from the red-ball format. Although the absence of these two stars can be a challenge to fill, Indian cricket fans are wondering when this veteran duo will het for the men in blue.

Earlier, Rohit and Kohli had announced their retirement of the T20i format last year after they had led India to the victory in the T20 World Cup in Barbados against South Africa. Earlier this year, experienced players played crucial roles in India’s Champions Trophy victory in Dubai. Kohli finished as the second highest Run scorer of India, emphasized by a century and a match-winning version against Australia in the semi-final, while Rohit blinded in the final against New Zealand with a brilliant 76, who also earned him the player of the final accentolated person.

With limited international competitions on the horizon, the 38-year-old Rohit and Kohli are faced with an increased challenge to remain motivated because they strive for the next 50-over world cup planned for the end of 2027. However, both players expect a long break from the rest of the 2025 cricket calendar as IPL Concluding on June 3.

Will Rohit Sharma play Virat Kohli in World Cup 2027?

After the Champions Trophy -Final in Dubai, a month later, Kohli expressed his ambition to concentrate on the ODI World Cup planned in South Africa for 2027. “The next big step? I don’t know. Maybe try to win the next World Cup 2027,” said Kohli.

In a recent discussion with journalist Vimal Kumar on his YouTube channel, Rohit revealed his desire to seek redemption for the painful defeat in the ODI World Cup final of 2023 during the 2027 tournament, but he did not fully commit himself to participate in the ICC event.

“It would be great if that happened,” Rohit noted about his desire to remedy the loss of 2023 in 2027. Nevertheless, after a brief moment of reflection, he became careful with his words and soon noticed that various external factors significantly influence his selection for the team.

“I just told you that I don’t think so far ahead. But these are big things. Who wouldn’t want to play the World Cup? Would I say I want to sit at home? I would like to play, but many things hang off, like my form and how I manage myself,” he added.
