A 60-year-old man in Uttar Pradesh died by suicide on Bakrid and left a note in which he claimed that he was offering himself as a ‘sacrifice to Allah’.
The dead man, Ish Mohammad Ansari, reportedly used a knife to cut his throat in a hut next to his house on Saturday morning. His relatives rushed to the spot after he had heard his cries and, with the help of the police, moves him to the Medical College district. He was later referred to Gorakhpur Medical College, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Ansari had returned from the Dargah of Sultan Syed Makhdoom Ashraf Shah after offering eID prayers around 10 am, according to his family. “After returning home Ansari went directly to the hut next to their house,” said his wife, Hajra Khatoon, as reported by the PTI news agency.
A handwritten suicide note found on the spot surprised the local residents and authorities. It read: “Insaan Bakre Ko Apne Bet Ki Tarah Paalta Hai Aur Phir Qurbani Deta Hai. Woh Bhi Ek Jeev Hai. Qurbani Humein Khud Ki Deni Chahiye. Main Apni Qurbani Allah Ke Rasool Ke Name De Raha Hoon. ” (“A man lifts a goat like his own child and then sacrifices it. That is also a living being. We have to offer ourselves as a sacrifice. I offer myself in the name of Allah’s Messenger.”)
Arvind Kumar Verma, extra superintendent of the police, said: “For the time being, Ansari has inflicted the wound itself. However, we are investigating the case from all corners.”
The body was sent for post -mortem and the police started a full investigation.
