Australia is completely ready to lock Hoorns with South Africa in the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) in the Lords in London from 11 to 15 June while wanting to defend their title.
The Australian Slagman Marnus Labuschagne is enthusiastic about the upcoming final of the World Test Championship (WTC) against a well-completed South African team at Lord’s and calls it a potential ‘great match’. The last time Australia was confronted in front of South Africa, was during the 2022-23 season, where Australia came at the top with a 2-0 win. They secured their place in the ICC World Test Championship Final by winning the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against India 3-1 last year. So you know, the WTC final will take place from 11 to 15 June on the iconic Lord’s Ground.
In a chat with ICC, Marnus Labuschagne shared: “South Africa has been a very good team in this WTC cycle. It is a balanced team on paper. They have a number of very good players. It will be a big challenge for us. We have to concentrate on our game.
The 30-year-old Labuschagne was part of the Playing XI who took the WTC trophy for the first time in 2023, triumph over India by 209 runs in the oval. This time the Australian team is in the final against South Africa. Labuschagne shared his thoughts when discussing this tournament.
“It is an exciting tournament. It means that every test you play has something to offer. It brings all countries into play. Everyone can reach the final. It is exciting to play in it. You fight for the trophy at the end of the two-year WTC cycle.”
“I think it was great. Two years ago, when we defeated India, it was great. When there is a test cricket, people want to look at it. Maybe India, Australia and England have a small burden of test cricket, but we really want all the countries to continue to produce great players and maintain such a wonderful tradition of Testcicket,” he added.
Labuschagne is an important player in the Senior Batting Line -up of Australia. He has sustained 4,396 runs more than 102 tests in 57 games, with an impressive average of 46.76, which includes 11 centuries and 23 half -centuries. His highest score in one innings is a remarkable 215 runs.
He pressed in the Australian team during the Ashes of 2019 and became the first player ever to be used as a brain replacement in cricket. This moment also coincided with the striking period of Temba Bavuma as a test cricket player, where he maintained an average of 63.43 and held the first place in the ICC ranking list for six months from last year.
However, Labuschagne has confronted with some obstacles in the current world test championship, on average 28.33 and manages to score only one century.
