British are encouraged to be vaccinated against fatal measles, while experts warn in the coming weeks of an expected wave.
In some parts of England, cases of the potentially deadly virus approach all those seen in 2024, which was the worst outbreak in the past decade.
In Bristol, 47 cases have been included in 2025 so far compared to 53 for the entire last year.
Now officials from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) warn that the situation can get worse as the British families go to Europe for their summer vacation.
Measles shops on the continent have reached their highest level in 25 years, and there are fears that cannot catch the bug abroad -and then spread them on returning home.
In a new warning, UKHSA said that more parents who cannot get their children that the measles vaccine England is a greater risk of outbreaks of the disease with thousands now unprotected.

UKHSA -Consultant -Epidemiologist Dr. Vanessa Saliba warned: ‘Measles shops are picking up again in England and outbreaks take place in Europe and many countries with close ties with the UK.
‘Measures spread very easily and can be a nasty disease, which leads to complications such as ear and breast infections and inflammation of the brain, where some children end up tragically in the hospital and have lifelong consequences.
“Nobody wants this for their child and it’s not something you want to experience when you’re gone on vacation.”
Since the beginning of the year, 420 cases of measles have been registered in England, although UKHSA says that this is probably an underestimate due to delays with reporting.
The vast majority of registered cases, two -thirds, was in children under 10 years of age – the majority of which was not vaccinated.
Because of the local area, Bristol is the epicenter of the current outbreak that does just over one tenth of all cases well.
But per London region, where almost half of the children in some districts are not vaccinated against measles, was responsible for most cases at 162.
Last year the worst was registered in a decade for measles in England with nearly 3,000 cases, the highest level that has been seen since 2012.

Dr. Amanda Doyle, the national director of NHS England for first -line care and community services, said it was never too late for parents to have their child vaccinated.
“The recent increase in cases that are seen in England and Europe should act as an important reminder to ensure that your child is protected,” she said.
Measles is a highly contagious and sometimes fatal disease.
Experts estimate that it is able to infect nine out of 10 non -vaccinated children in a classroom if only one classmate is contagious.
Measles symptoms are usually cold and flu -like, such as fever, cough and a runny nose followed by a result that develops a few days later.
More rarely causes serious complications such as sepsis, pneumonia and brain swelling, which can lead to long -term disabilities and even death.
One in five children who catch measles must go to the hospital, where one in 15 develops these serious complications.
Ukhsa -warning comes after two children in the US died of measles earlier this year.

MMR admission in England was about 91 percent before the Wakefield study was published, but fell to around 80 percent in the aftermath.

Ukhsa estimates that the measles vaccine has occurred 20 million cases and 4,500 deaths in the UK, because it was originally rolled out in 1968.
