Russell Simmons claims the HBO documentary “on the record” suppressed information that supported his innocence.
Russell Simmons complains the makers of the On the edge Documentary for $ 20 million, claims defamation against HBO and the directors of the documentary, Amy Ziering, and Kirby Dick, Because of his display in the film, which delves into the multiple accusations of the former Def Jam CEO of the multiple sexual attacks.
“Despite voluminous support for Mr. Simmons in the form of credible information, persuasive evidence, witness statements, and calls for further investigation by notable members of the media, politics, and the civil rights movement, the defendants simply disregarded and released and continue to re-release globally, a Film That Tremendously Disparaged and Damaged Mr. Variety.
Released in 2020, On the edge Contains several women who have accused the Mogul of sexual harassmentrape and sexual misconduct. Dick, Ziering and HBO refute that Simmons was ignored in the creation process.
Representatives of Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), the parent company of HBO, stated: “We dispute Mr. Simmons’ allegations, stand with the filmmakers and their trial and will defend us strongly against these unfounded accusations.”
Ziering also defended the credibility of the project. “We always do a very rigorous screening process.”
There is a one -year status of limitations on the Simmons trial, which has been adopted. When submitting, however, Simmons claims that the re -reading of the documentary continued to lubricate his reputation and therefore falls within the one -year window.
He wants $ 20 million in compensation. A jury still has to decide whether the claims of the victims of Simmons were harmful. Nevertheless, Simmons has kept himself in recent years and these claims in the headlines.
In October 2024, Sil Lai Abrams, Sherri Abernathy and Wendy Carolina Franco presented for “confessions of judgment” in the New York County Supreme Court. The request was submitted after Simmons had agreed to a financial regulation for each woman and could not provide the payment. In the first scheme, Simmons each promised to pay $ 1,265,000 to Abrams and Abernathy, and $ 515,000 to Franco.
The reason for the regulation of every woman has not been made public. The absence of Simmons to pay nourished speculation. Moreover, the revival of the settlement drawn attention to the claims that were previously made by Abrams, Abernathy and Franco.
Since HBO does not intend to settle with Simmons, the case will progress in the federal court.
