A pioneering cancer treatment that is praised as a ‘holy grail’ offers new hope to patients who have previously given only a few months to live.
A new study in California looked at 15 men who ‘knocked on the door of death’ because of prostate cancer in the late phase such as those who suffered former President Joe Biden.
The therapy included injecting liquid nitrogen to freeze their tumors, followed by a powerful cocktail of medicines that activate the immune system to destroy the cancer.
In general, 53 percent – or eight of the patients – saw all signs of their cancer disappear. In another five cases, the tumors shrink dramatically and in two cases the disease no longer grew. Nobody has experienced their cancer that further progressed.
Doctors who were involved in the study underlined how sick the patients were and said that 13 cancers who had spread to their bones and in all cases had not responded to standard treatments.
In stage four prostate cancer, the median survival percentage is only two to three years. Only a third of people come up to five years. But nine out of 10 patients still live in this study after 14 months.
Dr. Jason Williams, the scientist who pioneered in therapy and who was involved in the study, told the Daily Mail in an exclusive interview that he thought the results were ‘really impressive’ and underlined the effectiveness of therapy.
He said: “These results were really good, even in patients who were metastatic, patients who were treated heavily and failed all other immunotherapies, and in principle no longer had anything.”

‘If we got more healthy patients, patients before they were treated, it is likely that our results would be even better. But of course, the fact that our results are already so good, says a lot, “he added.
Doctors said their experimental therapy works because it is able to ‘use the immune system’, so that it is asked to destroy and destroy cancer cells in the body.
For the treatment – known as Sync -T – Doctors initially freeze part of the tumor in the prostate to kill the cancer cells.
This is done by putting a needle in the tumor and then inject it with liquid nitrogen or by shining it with fast electric pulses (these are quick and painless for the patient).
They then have the tumor defrost about ten minutes before they inject the tumor with a cocktail of four immunotherapy medication.
Patients are injected with about 15 milliliters of this cocktail, called SV-102 and those two monoclonal antibody medicines include at a pace of about three milliliters per minute.
Researchers say that this further activates the immune system, which helps to identify cancer cells throughout the body and then hunt and destroy it.
The therapy received a rapid track designation by the FDA in July last year and accelerated the process to approve the medicine.
The study was unveiled on ASCO 2025, the largest cancer conference in the world that was held in Chicago, Illinois, and led to the lifting of members of the public.
One member quickly called it the ‘holy grail’ of cancer treatments, while a second easily expressed ‘damn’ while the results were revealed.

Joe Biden, 82, revealed last month that the diagnosis was made an aggressive form of prostate cancer and said it had already spread to his bones. In comments last week he told reporters that he ‘feels good’ and expects to be able to beat this’.
Dr. Williams said that his therapy could be offered patients like Biden.
“We know they have the information about our process,” he said, “so she [Biden’s medical team] Have seen it, and hopefully they can make a decision because he has clearly advanced prostate cancer, and this is an advanced treatment option. ‘
In the study, patients were on average 60 years old with an age category of 49 to 74 years. Nine of the patients were white, while five were Spanish and was one black.
Ten had previously received hormone therapy to treat their cancer, while five had refused therapy. Three or 20 percent had done chemotherapy, while five or 33 percent had had radiation, and had received two or 13 percent, immunotherapy.
Each received up to 12 cycles from the therapy that was administered once every four weeks.
Patients too underwent full-body MRI and PET scans every eight weeks, so that doctors could follow the progress of their tumors.
On average, patients had increased levels of immune cells that fight tumors in their blood within 24 hours of their first cycle of treatment.
Side effects such as fever were registered, the scientists said they were probably caused by an increase in the activity of the immune system. However, there were no major side effects.
In one case, a patient saw all 50 cancer -like growths disappear in his bones after receiving treatment.

The patients in this study had metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer, which means that their cancer had spread to other parts of the body and hormone therapy was no longer effective in controlling their growth.
Dr. With other doctors, Williams has urged his method for injecting immunotherapy drugs to enter directly into the tumor instead of systemic, or in blood flow, such as standard practice.
He added to this website: ‘Hopefully this will open people’s eyes.
“Doctors say, you think it’s going to work in tumors, and I say, that’s the same as saying that if you have a house on fire, you think you should put the water on that house or on another nearby.”
The therapy is also used to treat other cancers earlier, in cases that fall under DailyMail.com.
These include a doctor who suffers from pancreatic cancer who was told that he only had six months to live, but then cleaned up his cancer with therapy. And a mother-of-five who received 24 months to live after her stage spread four breast cancer ‘everywhere’.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the US, with around 236,000 men with the disease in the US every year.
Age is the greatest risk factor for the disease, in which one in eight men is diagnosed with the disease during their lives. Those aged 70 and older have a risk of approximately 50:50 to develop the disease suggest studies.
