China accused the US of violating their recent trade agreement and promised to take measures to defend its interests, so that the prospect of an immediate leadership interview that Donald Trump wants to have bilateral conversations.
The Chinese Ministry of Commerce issued a statement on Monday in which the claim of the US president was reprimanded that Beijing reached the consensus in Geneva last month. The dust threatened to increase trade relationships, even while Trump expressed hope on Friday that he will speak with Chinese President Xi Jinping, with economic adviser to the White House, Kevin Hassett who expected a call will take place this week.
Beijing accused the US of the one -sided introduction of new discriminatory limitations, including new guidelines for AI Chip export checks, curbs on the sale of chip design software to China and the withdrawal of Chinese student visa.
“If the US insists in its own way and continues to damage the Chinese interests, China will continue to take resolute and powerful measures to protect its legitimate rights and interests,” the ministry said. It also said that the US violated the consensus between Trump and XI on January 17 between January 17, when they last spoke, without working out.
Asian shares fell together with the US stock indexfutures, with a measure of Chinese shares that were traded in Hong Kong, no less than 2.9 percent, most in almost two months.
Tensions between the world’s greatest economies are rattling again after the tariff moniker in May. The Trump administration said last week that it was planning to withdraw Visa for Chinese students while moving to limit the sale of chip design software to China. They also blocked the export of critical American jet engine parts and technology to China, the New York Times reported.
In addition to tensions in economic ties, geopolitical friction also grows. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs during the weekend protested against the claim of the US Minister of Defense Pete Hegseeth in a collection of military leaders that China pays an imminent threat to Taiwan, a self that was claimed by Beijing.
Trump did not accept when he accused Beijing of breaking the tariff material on Friday, but the American trade representative Jamieson Groer complained that China had not accelerated the export of critical minerals needed for advanced electronics.
China has taken a grip on his export of rare earths in the past week at a pace that “is slower than industry,” said Michael Hart, president of the American Chamber of Commerce in China.
In the statement, the Ministry of Trade said that it resolutely rejects the American allegations and that the country has implemented the consensus strictly and sincerely.
Trump’s comments came a day after the American Minister of Finance Scott Bessent said that conversations with China were stuck on the trade and suggested that a call between Trump and XI could be needed to break the impasse.
The American president “will have a wonderful conversation this week about the trade negotiations with President XI,” said Hassett, director of De Witte Huis National Economic Council, Sunday about ABCs this week. “That is our expectation.”
Trump already indicated a wish in February to have a phone call with his Chinese counterpart and later said he was willing to travel to the Asian nation to meet XI, although no such involvement has been planned so far.
