Ask for construction equipment to pick up this year: ICEMA

This year, stakeholders in industry expect an increase in the demand for construction equipment that is largely powered by ‘above normal’ rainfall prospects and the focus of the government on infrastructure, has considered the industrial body -president Depak Shetty.

“The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted ‘above the normal’ rainfall in the country and I am very happy that the rural market will benefit from this. Since most of our machines work in the rural area, I hope we will benefit,” Said Shetty.

With the government that focuses on infrastructure, he said: “I am sure that this year the growth will be in double digit.”

In an interaction with PTIShetty, who is also the CEO and director of JCB India, a leading manufacturer and supplier of heavy construction machines, said that the industry of the Indian construction machinery has witnessed 26 percent in recent years.

Shetty noted that FY25 was a year of strategic repositioning for the domestic construction equipment industry for various reasons.

The growth could certainly have been higher, as was expected earlier in the year, but if an industry: “We will remain hopeful for a strong future in the longer term.”

“As a nation, India is raised the ranking of the fourth largest economy in the world, and it is obvious to continue the focus on infrastructure development,” he said.

In 2024-25, the construction equipment industry demonstrated launchy resilience with a modest growth of three percent and reaching a new milestone of 1.40,000 units sold, V vivekanand, president of ICEMA, who also director of Caterpillar India PVT LTD, said in a recent report.

When asked to comment on JCB India’s performance, he said that last year was a record year for the company. The company exports its machines to around 130 countries around the world. Last year the company exported more than 10,000 machines to America.

JAIDEEP SHEKHAR that is a convener, Icema industry analysis and insight panel said that the industry experienced almost flat growth, in line with expectations due to general elections and the implementation of new emission standards.

JCB India Ltd is a leading manufacturer of earth -falling and construction equipment in India. The company started as a joint venture in 1979 and is now a complete subsidiary of JC Bamford Excavators, United Kingdom.
