Manila, Philippines -The Meralco bolts and Chris Newsome could breathe a sigh of relief after achieving a place in the PBA Philippine Cup -Play -Offs and closing the eliminations with a victory.
But instead of relaxing, Newsome and the company keep their focus sharp for the basketball Champions League of next month in Dubai.
“It’s a good place to get in to get that momentum in the play-offs,” said Newsome after their 82-73 victory over Ginebra in Araneta Coliseum on Friday.
“The only thing is that we have to cut that momentum to go abroad and play a different style of basketball [for the BCL]. “
Instead of setting up with their 6-5 record, the bolts will immediately train for the Dubai competitions, which run from 9 to 15 July.
Newsome, who ended with 15 points, six rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a stem, that although they are assured of a play -off place, staying sharp for the quarterfinals is a different thing – and the BCL offers the perfect test.
The PBA play -offs still have to close a start date, Newsome is already enthusiastic to defend their crown after they have started the BCL campaign.
“Our chemistry is really good at the moment and with the way we play, we play at a high level,” he said. “We look forward to the play -offs, whoever we come across.”
