WASHINGTON (AP) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stopped planning new visa interviews for foreign students who want to study in the US while preparing for the screening of their activity on social media, said civil servants.

An American officer said on Tuesday that the suspension is intended to be temporary and does not apply to applicants who had previously planned interviews. The official spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss an internal administration document.

A cable signed by State Secretary Marco Rubio and obtained by the Associated Press says that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is planning to give guidelines on extensive social media.

“Immediately, in preparation for an extension of the required screening on social media and screening, consulation sections may not add additional appointment capacity for students or exchange visitors” until the guidelines are issued, says the cable.

Asked for the suspension on a briefing Tuesday, said spokesman Tammy Bruce of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that the US uses every available means to veterinarians who register for Visa.

“We will continue to use every tool that we can to judge who it is that comes here, whether they are students or otherwise,” said Bruce.

The move, reported for the first time by Poloo, is the last in the performance of the Trump government against international students.

Last week, the Trump administration withdrew the ability of Harvard University to withdraw international students and removed it from the program with which schools can sponsor foreign students for Visa. That effort was quickly challenged for the court and blocked by a federal court.

This spring, the administration also withdrawn the legal status of thousands of international students who are already in the country, so that some people leave the country for fear of deportation. After many students had submitted successful legal challenges, the administration said it restored the status of the students, but the government also expanded the grounds for terminating the legal status of international students.

The previous administration of President Donald Trump has performed reviews of all visa applicants and introduced reviews of their social media accounts. The policy remained during the Biden administration.

An extensive break when planning student visa can lead to delays that can disturb students’s plans to register in the summer and autumn terms.

A recession in the registration of international students can harm the university budgets, because some institutions shifted to registering more international students who pay full tuition fees to take care of the financing of shortages.
