PVL: Capital1 wins lottery, to first choose in Rookie concept

Manila, Philippines – Capital1 sealed the top choice in the PVL Rookie Draft 2025 after winning the lottery on Monday evening in TV Media Center.

With the second highest chance of landing the number 1 pick with a chance of 30 percent, the solar spikers were drawn over the NxLed Chameleons, which had a 40 percent chance.

Capital1 will prepare the first overall choice on 8 June in Novotel and get the chance to select the best player from the stacked concept class, led by triple UAAP MVP Bella BELEN, who applied but still keeps her options open.

“First of all, thanks, Michele (Gumabao),” said Capital1 owner Milka Romero, after the PVL Invitational Conference MVP from 2024 during the lottery. “Of course I am so honored to be part of this design. For us this would help us improve. This is our second year and our second season. My sister (Mandy) and I are very happy because this gives new teams to equalize and get better together with the other teams.”

“In our second year here in the PVL we could now get the first choice. It is an exciting concept season because there are many new players who came to the PVL. We saw an exciting new generation of players of the UAAP,” she added.

Galeries Tower, who only had two balls in the lottery, provided the second overall choice.

Farm Fresh defended the chances of climbing in the third general slot, even though she only had a 10 percent chance of landing a top three pick and losing against galleries in a tie-trader performed by the Games and the entertainment board.

NXLED, on the other hand, had the highest probability at 40 percent, slid to the fourth pick, but team manager DZI Gervacio was still happy with the deep talent pool of this year’s design.

The solar spikers ended with a record of 1-10 in the provisional All-Filipino Conference conference of 2024-25 and became in the qualifying and play-in rounds without a win.

Last year, coach Roger Gorayeb picked up the right pieces, in which Leila Cruz was set up as the second overall choice and got a bargain in the second round with Libero Roma Mae Doromal.

The Star Rookies with Russian Import Marina Tushova led the solar spikers to the very first play-off appearance of the franchise in the reinforced 2024 conference before he fell short to Cignal in a knockout quarterfinals despite the 50 points competition record by Tushova.

Capital1 and the 11 other teams will see the aspirants in the concept combination on 30 and 31 May.

Sister Coffee, the winner of last year’s lottery, has the number 5 overall choice, followed by Cignal, Choco Mucho and Chery Tiggo, who had a tiebreak who signed a lot for the seventh and eighth picks, respectively.

PLDT is the ninth general choice. Akari received the 10th Pick about all-Filipino champion Petro Gazz (11th) after a tiebreaker, while Creamline will choose the last.
