Patients with severe intestinal disorders will benefit from a new drug that can eliminate their painful symptoms in just three months.
The one -off Jab, Guselkumab, treats the colitis of Crohn and Ulcerosa, two debilitating conditions that occur when the immune system accidentally attacks healthy tissue in the intestine and other parts of the body.
The drug binds to immune cells that cause this damage, so that the symptoms are considerably reduced.
Studies show that more than half of patients with Crohn’s and aggressive disorder that can be damaged both the intestine and the mouth, stomach and anus within 12 weeks of starting Guselkumab.
About a quarter of patients with ulcerative colitis, where the damage is limited to the intestine, experienced a similar advantage after the start of treatment.
Earlier this month, the watchdog of Medicines, the regulatory body of medicines and health care, gave the green light for Guselkumab to be prescribed in the UK to patients who have not responded to other treatments.

It will probably be rolled out on the NHS within the following year.
About half a million people in the UK suffer from Crohn’s, which causes severe pain, diarrhea, exhaustion and weight loss. It can also cause pain in the joints, anus and eyes.
About a third of patients who live with the condition where the intestinal wall becomes inflamed will require surgery.
Ulcerative Colitis affects around 146,000 people in the UK. Symptoms include diarrhea, blood in the shit and have to go to the toilet regularly.
Both disorders can be controlled by drugs called Biologics. These injections limit the damage caused by the immune system to the body.
However, not all patients respond to them. The NHS Waakhond, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, currently decides whether he should finance Guselkumab.
Experts say that the £ 2,250 per month JAB will be a lifeline and a crucial addition to the intestinal disorders of health care.
