With a four-game loss streak now behind them, the Los Angeles Dodgers will be looking to win a series against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks when the teams meet in the final of a three-game set Wednesday.
The Dodgers were on a season-losing Skid before scored three points in the 10th inning to achieve a 4-3 victory over the Diamondbacks on Tuesday. The best starter of Los Angeles, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, gave the club exactly what he needed from his bait – seven scoreless innings.
But the victory was not secure until Los Angeles scored three times in the 10th inning after Reliever Tanner Scott had given up a game type Solo-homrun to the Gabriel Moreno of Arizona in the ninth and a Goad two-run shot to Corbin Carroll in the 10th. All three Thuis Runs of Moreno this season are against the Dodgers.
The recent skid of Los Angeles came with three starters on the injured list after right -handed Roki Sasaki had taken last week. Manager Dave Roberts left the situation to take a calculated risk on Wednesday.
The Dodgers send right-handed Dustin May (1-4, 4.43 ERA) to the hill on four days. It is the first time that he has had less than five days of rest between trips since the return of a Tommy John operation from 2023.
“I think it is more the need for the rotation,” said Roberts when he was asked if four days of rest was part of the progress of May in his return from medical problems. “I think he is physically able to tackle it. Our rotation certainly needs it. In order not to have the opportunity to really fall in, I think the progression is a bit fitting and the timing is good for this.”
May has lost each of his last three starts and gave four runs on six hits with two walks on five innings on Friday against the Los Angeles Angels in the 6-2 defeat.
In six career performances (five starts) against Arizona, May 1-2 with an ERA of 3.96. He faced the Diamondbacks on the road on 10 May and gave up two points on seven hits of more than 5 1/3 innings of a 3-0 loss.
Arizona Right-handed Corbin Burnes (3-1, 2.56) received the best of Los Angeles that day and will resist again by May and the Dodgers. In the victory, Burnes gave up five hits in seven scoreless innings with five strikeouts.
On Friday, Burnes added six pointless innings in a victory over the Colorado Rockies and is at a point of 16 scoreless innings that go back to a start of 30 April against the New York Mets.
In nine career performances (seven starts) against the Dodgers, Burnes 3-3 with an ERA of 4.38 is.
On Tuesday, Arizona was without a hit by six innings against Yamamoto. Ketel Marte broke the No-Hitter in the seventh, Moreno Bond him in the ninth and Carroll gave Arizona the lead in the 10th.
“Our boys fought all day and I am proud of that,” said Arizona manager Torey Lovullo. “We just got a little short. It stinks. We had set everything up. It would have been a kind of stealing for us, given what Yamamoto did, but it wasn’t in the cards.”
The Dodgers scored three times in the ninth against right -handed Shelby Miller, who was on the hill for the third consecutive game. Max Muncy ended the game with a sacrificial fly.
