For years, experts have warned that substances used to create modern plastics can succeed in our food and possibly activate it to a large number of health problems.

These include cancer, infertility, birth defects, developmental delays in children, as well as an increased risk of kidney disorders and type 2 diabetes.

Now scientists from the Food Packaging Forum Foundation warned in an overview of the subject, scientists in Switzerland warned a drive to make plastic packaging more environmentally friendly, the problem could aggravate.

They wrote: “The push to use more recycled content for plastics and paper means that more dangerous chemicals will migrate to foodstuffs.”

The team quoted studies that suggested that the constant recycling of plastics, which makes the material strongly concentrated, can lead to an accumulation of harmful chemicals in food packaging.

This can split in foodstuffs due to simple storage or through heating such as with lace -and -care meals.

They also emphasized the extra risk of black plastic products such as kitchen utensils, because these may contain dangerous connections from ‘illegally recycled plastic waste’.

This warning comes on the back of a study last year, in which 85 percent of the spatulas, collection tubes and other kitchen utensils were made from recycled black plastic contained fire -resistant substances coupled with numerous health problems.

Other concerns of concern that the team noticed include perfluoralkyl and polyfluoralkyl substances (PFASS), also known as ‘Forever Chemicals’.

There is no level of safe exposure to the chemicals and PFAs are linked to multiple cancers, asthma, fertility problems, obesity, birth defects, diabetes and autism.

BPA-BISPHENOL A-And-Falates, both substances used in modern plastic production were other examples that were emphasized in the report.

The authors also said that chemicals that seep in food was a special concern when it comes to ultra-processed foods (UPFS).

UPF is an umbrella term that is used to cover everything that is made edible with colors, sweeteners and preservatives that extend the shelf life.

Ready meals, ice cream and tomato ketchup are some of the most popular examples of these products, which are often also supplied in plastic packaging.

“UPFs are generally prepared and kept in their packaging for several weeks, months or even years,” the authors wrote.

“Many are even heated directly in their packaging (for example, ready-made dishes in plastic trays that are heated in the microwave), improving the migration of FCCs (chemicals) to food.”

They added that the processing that occurs to create these foods in enormous industrial cooking processes, they can also expose to plastic materials.

The main author of the report, Jane Muncke added that although research into UPFS’s damage was still underway, data was strong enough that governments should act to limit their consumption.

“The evidence is becoming increasingly clear that contemporary packaged ultra-processed foods are handy and hyperpalable, but they contain many synthetic chemicals and microplastics from different sources,” she said.

“We see that the health effects of this type of food contamination are currently undervalued and studied.”
