An older man who has killed his wife deadly by inflicting “76 sharp strength injuries” has died.
Francesco Dimasi, 93, was accused of killing his 85-year-old woman, Maria Dimasi, in their Findon house on December 2, 2023.
Mr Dimasi’s lawyer, Trish Johnson, told the Supreme Court of South Australia on Monday that her client had died.
“As I understand, has your customer died?” Justice Sandi McDonald said.
“He has, who has been,” replied Johnson.
In January, Justice McDonald did not ruled Mr Dimasi mentally to stand justice, but was mentally competent at the time of the murder.
Maria Dimasi was described as a “caregiver in all sense of the word”. ((Lever: Nonna’s Instagram -Kitchen))
At the time of her statement, she said that Mr Dimasi “had caused the death of his wife” and that his actions were “illegal”.
“Mr Dimasi agrees that the evidence in those sworn statements has established the objective elements of the crime of murder without reasonable doubt,” said Justice McDonald at the time.
“Mr Dimasi stuck his wife with the help of a knife seized by the police and caused her death.”
But she said that since the offensive Mr Dimasi, serious vascular dementia had been diagnosed.
Based on a psychiatric report, Justice McDonald stated Mr Dimasi “mentally unsuitable to stand”.
“After I have made that finding, I have to discover that Mr Dimasi is not guilty of the crime of murder.”
“We can’t forgive the bad deed”
A court had previously heard that Mr Dimasi was “heavily intoxicated” when he called the police to tell them that he had killed his wife and that then officers arrived, he was covered with blood while he was sitting at the kitchen table.
Mrs Dimasi’s family spoke with the media earlier and said that they would “amount to their mother”.
“We can’t forgive the bad deed that took place,” said son Vince Dimasi.
“Our mother did so much, not only for our family, but also for her husband.”
After an earlier herring outside the court, the daughter of Mrs. Dimasi Dominee Carmel Ieraci described her mother as a “caregiver in all sense of the word”.
“She touched everyone’s life with love and softness, humor, smiling, care and of course her nourishing food,” she said.
