Josh Metellus has still not signed his extension. That is a problem, especially because July quickly marches to the end.

The problem of the Vikings will get worse as soon as the training camp arrives (Saturday July 26). At that time, the Metellus problem will be difficult to avoid. Many press conferences will take place, which leads to no shortage of possibilities for curious media members to wade the Metellus waters. Does the GM undermine that coming distraction by sending a deal that will sign safety?

The good news: Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has rather solved similar riddles.

Danielle Hunter was on a contract cross prior to leaving Minnesota, so that the GM found some solutions. So TJ Hockenson also had some contract around him before an extension was done. Finally, they think of Justin Jefferson – really one of the best players in the NFL – who takes a long time to get his deal.

Yes, there may have been some impatience and nervousness among fans, but Adofo-Mensah has solved things.

The good news is that the cap space of the Vikings for 2025 is not scarce (in contrast to the prospects for 2026).

Josh Metellus, who currently has a $ 6,541,667 CAP loading, could get a wage increase in 2025 with quite a bit of convenience. The team has more than $ 23.5 million in Open Chamber, so a wage bump would not be particularly difficult. However, keep in mind that an expansion could be create instead of reduce Cap space in 2025. Indeed, an extension has the potential to open nearly $ 3.5 million in extra space.

The difficulty that would occur is that next year’s cap debt would aggravate. Adofo-Mensah has all kinds of solutions to find out the problem, but it is still a problem.

They wonder what a suitable number for Metellus would be. Camryn Bynum became a foal in the low season after he put pen on paper for a four -year agreement that promises to pay him $ 60 million. Very little chance, people, that Mr. Metellus sees a song so high with the Vikings.

At least a few factors worked in favor of Bynum. First, he is a little younger. Secondly, he went to the open market and created the possibility of a bidding war. Thirdly, he plays free safety more often, so that he can pose more a threat to intercept passes.

Josh Metellus is often a Linebacker/Slot Corner, a hybrid defender who gets safety from his name (really, he is moved everywhere). He is an excellent example of what it means to be a Brian Flores defender as far as he is someone who is intelligent and versatile, rough and selfless. He is at best when he can come forward and act more often as a strong run defender than if someone who is excellent in the pass cover. What should the Vikings pay for those skills?

Undoubtedly, more than what they currently get is that Josh Metellus is in the last season of his two -year extension for just $ 8 million. He drew that deal before he broke out on the defense. He has now solidified himself as a great player, someone who is part of the solution in Minnesota.

Almost twenty NFL safetys on average at least $ 10 million per season (a crew with Harrison Smith, a great time). Mr Metellus should at least be within that reach and millions a year should jump into the double digits. It seems unlikely that he surpasses Bynum.

Metellus, 27, is a team captain who is proposed to thrive on specials and defense. Holding him as he did in the summer would be a distraction that the team would rather avoid.
