The Maharashtra Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) suspended the License of Ajanta Caterers on Wednesday, the contractor who operated the canteen in the Akashwani Mla -Hostel in Mumbai, a day after Shiv Sena Mla Sanjay Gaikwad was caught on camera and a staff member beats and a staff member hits the member.
The FDA order mentioned violations of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006and the regulations for food safety and standards (licenses and registration of food companies) instructions, 2011, after an inspection that was carried out earlier in the day.
The FDA team, led by food safety officer RS Bodke, carried out a four-hour inspection of the kitchen, storage and other parts of the canteen.
Six officials participated in the operation and collected 16 food samples to test. The samples are sent to a laboratory and reports are expected within 14 days.
Although no formal complaint was submitted by the MLA or anyone else, the FDA initiated the inspection after a video of the attack went viral on social media.
“We have come to check how food is made and the conditions under which it is prepared. People should get hygienic food. We carry out regular checks, but when there are super incidents occur, it’s important to find out the causal media, bode. That their inspections also focus on cleanliness, medical checks for workers, water quality, plague control, and garbage disposal.
The suspension assignment of the FDA draws up Ajanta Caterers to stop all food service activities in the Hostel building from 10 July. The move comes in the midst of widespread indignation after a video showed Gaikwad, a two -year -old legislator of Buldhana van Buldhana from Buldashwani Mla Gaste Huis.
The incident took place on Tuesday evening, but the video appeared online the next day.
Gaikwad is seen in a vest and towel in the videoThe canteen operator scolding, refusing to pay the bill and then violently touch an employee who is at the invoicing desk.
He makes the contractor smell the package with the valley before he lands so hard that the contractor falls to the ground. While the contractor tries to get up, Gaikwad hits him again. After the attack, the MLA is heard that he taught the employee a lesson “apne style se (in my style)”.
Gaikwad claimed that the food – especially the valley – was of poor quality and made him unwell.
“I had ordered Dal, Rice and Chapatis. After the first bite I felt unwell and surrendered. The food was rotten,” he said reporters and stated that he had complained about food quality several times in the past. He claimed that despite repeated warnings, the contractor did not improve food standards.
In conversation with the media, Gaikwad said he had stayed in the MLA hostel for the past six years and claimed that lizards and rats had previously been found in the food served there.
“Eggs 15 days old, non-vegetarian 15-20 days old, vegetables 2-4 days old. Nearly 5,000-10,000 people eat here and everyone has the same complaint. Someone has a lizard in his food and someone has a rat or a rope,” he said.
Gaikwad defended his actions and called on the “Shiv Sena style” Teached by party founder Balasaheb Tackeray. “If someone does not understand the language of democracy, this is my language. I am a warrior,” he told the media, adding that he would not hesitate to repeat the action if necessary.
After the viral video, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis condemned the behavior of Gaikwad and called it unacceptable and harmful to the image of the state legislator. “The attacking of staff is not the way to set up grievances,” he said, in which he encouraged legislators to follow the right process.
Gaikwad repeated that he would raise the issue during the current term of office and stated: “I had complained several times about the food served in the canteen, but the situation remained unchanged.”
