Northern Territory Police has arrested a teenager who reportedly raped a female employee during some officers describing as a “brutal” daylight attack on the Tiwi Islands, north of Darwin.
The boy, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was charged during the weekend for various violent offenses, including rape, worsened abuse, worsened burglary, worsened theft and freedom of freedom.
He faced the juvenile court this week, where his lawyer Brendan Annear applied for the boy to be saved under strict circumstances, including an evening clock and electronic monitoring.
A group of family members of the boy, including his parents, was also in court to show their support.

Mr Annear said the court that the boy’s parents were “shocked” to learn from the allegations against their son and noticed that they had worked with the authorities to take the teenager to the police station where he was arrested.
“These are people who can rely on assistance [the boy] To meet bail and to inform the police if he doesn’t, “he said.
But public prosecutor Rebecca Everitt claimed that the boy “clearly acted outside the control of his parents” and the allegations were indicative of a young person who was “extremely disrupted”.
Mrs. Everitt said that the alleged attack took place at 11 a.m. and described it as “violent” and “brutal”.
She said that because the period of bail would probably be long, it would be “incredibly difficult” for the boy’s parents to “practice the level of control and the required supervision” to eliminate the safety of the community.
She also said that electronic monitoring would not be sufficient in view of the “limited” capacity for the police to respond to breaches.

“The nature of the allegations, its brutality, and the risk of not specifically having the complainant, but other people in a community in which [the boy] Maybe bail … is just too big, “said Mrs. Everitt.
Judge Thomason Opie acknowledged that the parents of the child were “respectable members of the community” and were “well placed to take care of a young person”.
But she said, “The court must carefully approach this issue when accusations of violence are so serious”.
Mrs Opie denied bail and has taken the boy in custody, where he will stay until his case returns to court in September.
The alleged victim was not known to the boy and was not permanently based on the island.
