Former French open champion Jelena Ostapenko has again found himself in the headlines during Wimbledon. The 28-year-old has reached the quarterfinals of the women’s doubles alongside partner Hsieh Su-Wei.

Ostapenko recently caused a stir when she was questioned about her outfit by referee Jamie Crowson prior to their second round match. In response, an annoyed Ostapenko lifted her skirt to reveal greeners, which demonstrates that the updated all -white clothing instructions from Wimbledon, which allows female competitors to wear dark overhies since 2023.

However, this is not the first time that Ostapenko’s behavior has raised eyebrows. Last year, the former semi-finalist of Wimbledon had a remarkable disagreement with another referee.

During a loss of a quarterfinals against Victoria Azarenka on the Brisbane International 2024, Ostapenko demanded that referee Julie Kjnedlie would be excluded from officializing her future matches. The controversial incident took place when the decisive set in her was right on 4-4.

Ostapenko was convinced that her drop -shot was bumped twice after he had fallen the right side of the net. However, the referee did not agree with Ostapenko, who led the current world no. 21 to eliminate the civil servant and to be labeled by fans on social media.

“You are blind,” Ostapenko argued, as reported by Explicitly. “It is impossible to play if you make so many mistakes. I will never want you again at my game. You will never be at my game. I don’t want you at my matches, you ruin my competitions.”

Despite the heated exchange, Ostapenko still managed a handshake with Azarenka after the game. The tensions between the two players, however, again opened the Qatar weeks later. Perhaps still smart of another defeat, Ostapenko’s attempt at sportiness with a vast racket instead of a handshake Azarenka left less than impressed, making them the rejection.

The Latvian star is also central to various controversial moments in Wimbledon. Especially in 2021, when she was accused of Gamesmanship by Ajla Tomljanovic. The claim was submitted after Ostapenko’s request for a medical time-out when losing 4-0 in the last set.

“I have been in situations in which players who use medical time -out to get their opponent, usually when they lose poorly,” a skeptical Tomljanovic told reporters. “I know when someone is injured and when someone is not. She can say she was injured – I don’t think she was.”

Ostapenko, however, hit back to Tomljanovic’s claims. “She can’t say anything because she knows zero about my injury,” Ostapenko maintained. “I thought it was very, very disrespectful from her side, because every player who plays tennis or can get injured.”

The following year the former French open winner faced a hostile crowd on SW19 when she was pronounced against Tatjana Maria after a defeat of the fourth round. The react camera of the crowd after she had thrown a water bottle to her chair.

Tennis legend Caroline Wozniacki shared her own experience in sharing a court with Ostapenko during the Australian Open 2023. During the obligation to comment for her victory over Coco Gauff, said Wozniacki: “Let’s say I once practiced with her and did not chose to do this again.”

Despite a singles defeat for the Great -Britain in the Sonay Kartal of Great -Britain and an early exit in the mixed Doubles, Ostapenko remains contrary to the women’s doubles in Wimbledon. With a history of success in Doubles, including reaching three Grand Slam final and securing the US Open Title last year, the 28-year-old is a formidable force on the field.

Controverse followed Ostapenko in the Abu Dhabi Open in February, where an opponent called her ‘disrespectful’ after a quarter -final match. Working together with Ellen Perez, Ostapenko faced Timea Babos and Nicole Melichar-Martinez and was accused of interrupting their attempt to change goal.

After a tense exchange with Ostapenko, Babos went to Instagram to express her frustrations with a cryptic message after the game. “Some players are just sooo fake and disrespectful,” she wrote. “I don’t care how good they are or how good they touch the ball; they just have respect and manners.”

Ostapenko will hope to leave Wimbledon this month with another Grand Slam title. Together with Hsieh, Ostapenko is preparing for their Wimbledon Ladies Doubles quarterfinals collision against Sorana Cirstea and Anna Kalinskaya this Tuesday.
