Arsenal broke their silence after former midfielder Thomas Partey was accused of five counts of rape and one count of sexual violence, just a few days after his contract with the Emirates had passed.

In a short statement from the BBC, the club said: ‘The player’s contract ended on 30 June. Due to current legal proceedings, the club cannot comment on the case. “

The 32-year-old Ghana International, who spent five seasons in North London, is accused of attacking three women between 2021 and 2022 after a three-year investigation by Scotland Yard.

He will now appear on August 5 at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.

Partey, who was signed by Arsenal in 2020 for £ 45 million from Atletico Madrid, denies all charges against him. In a statement released by his lawyer Jenny Wiltshire of Hickman and Rose, Pareny said that he “welcomes the chance to finally erase his name” and “fully collaborated with the police and CPS during their investigation.”

The Crown Prosecution Service confirmed that the charges were authorized after ‘carefully revised an extensive evidence file’.

According to the Metropolitan Police, two counts of rape relate to one woman, three counts of rape relate to a second woman and the indictment of sexual violence relates to a third woman. None of the alleged victims can be called for legal reasons.

The investigation began in February 2022, where Pedey was first arrested in July of that year, although he was not publicly mentioned at the time and continued to play for Arsenal while he was on bail. Since then it has arisen that he made more than 50 performances for the club during the period in which the investigation was underway.

Detective -head inspector Andy Furphy, who leads the research, said: ‘Our priority continues to support the women who have emerged. We ask everyone who has been affected by this case, or everyone who has information, to talk to our team. ‘

Partey left Arsenal last month after the expiry of his contract, with reports that suggested that negotiations had stalled over a new deal weeks earlier. The midfielder trains in Ghana while he is looking for a new club and recently won the Ghana Footballer of the Year Award.

He made 167 performances for Arsenal, scored nine goals and was part of the side that the Community Shield won in 2023. Despite the setbacks of injuries, Partey regularly returned last season as the side of Mikel Arteta finished second in the Premier League and reached the semi-final of the Champions League.

In a recent interview that discussed his future, Parisey said that his family would play a decisive role in where he then plays, and explains: “I think the first is where you are happy and where do you feel at home … There are many things where you now have to watch with a family, where you want them to be happy.”

Since legal procedures are now active, it is expected that neither Partey nor Arsenal will further comment before the planned hearing next month.
