Ex-man United Star to become a member of Arteta’s Coaching Staff at Arsenal

Former Manchester United and Real Madrid defender Gabriel Heinze will join the Mikel Arteta coaching staff at Arsenal.

According to nytimes.com The appointment of Heinze comes after Carlos Cuesta left Arsenal to become the new head coach of Parma.

Arteta and Heinze were teammates in Paris Saint-Germain during the 2001-02 campaign.

At the start of this season, Arteta spoke about his time at PSG and said: “The other inspirations were (Mauricio) Pochettino and Heinze, those two were next to me, behind me, and they guided me in everything I had to do in my professional life, how to understand the game and they were inspiring for me.”

Heinze, 47, held coaching roles on the Argentinian Top-Flight-Kant Godoy Cruz, Major League Soccer (MLS) Club Atlanta United and the old boys of Newell, the club where he started his career, since he retired in 2014.

His last head coaching position was with Newell’s, after he left in November 2023 after a year that was in charge.

Heinze’s gaming career saw him win competition titles in Manchester United, Real Madrid and Marseille, as well as an Olympic gold medal with Argentina in Athens in 2004.

At the international level, he won 72 caps for his country and he was twice a Copa America-Tweede.

He will become a member of a coaching table team at Arsenal that assisted Albert Stuivenberg, set-piece coach Nico Jover and goalkeeper coach Inaki Cana. The three have all been in the club since 2021.
