Morgan State University increases its global influence.
Morgan State University became the first HBCU to present a solo pavilion to the Biennale of the 2025 architecture, the prestigious event with global architectural works with his Recall and answer Installation.
Inspired by West -African traditions, the Recall and answer Pavilion was made by Coleman A. Jordan, a university professor of architecture. The pavilion Investigates the concept From the talking drum, a symbol of cultural expression.
“The pavilion is a sonic ship – an architecture that remembers,” Jordan said in a statement. “Through rhythm, form and cooperation, we bridge centuries of cultural disjunctions and we recover space for black expression and ancestral wisdom. This exhibition is proof of what is possible when design, healing and community serves.”
The pavilion, built with sustainably produced wood, was done by students and alumni from Morgan State University, Tuskegee University, and Clemson University. It is in line with the theme of the Biennale’s 2025 of “Repair, Regenerate and reuse,“Exploring history of relocation, colonization and Delete in the African diaspora.
“For the School of Architecture and Planning, this is not only an incredible honor, but also an in -depth responsibility,” Abimola O. reproductorPh.D., dean of Morgan State University, said in a statement. “As one of the few architecture programs that are housed in an HBCU, this exhibition highlights the caliber of educators and emerging architects that we produce. It confirms our place as a vital voice when resetting the inclusive future through design.”
Although this is the first time of Morgan State University Lead an independent pavilion, The university made its Biennial debut in Venice in 2021 with the Collaborative Exhibit, “We the 7: a conversation with the African diaspora.
In addition, the marching band of Morgan State, The Magnificent Marching Machine, visited Venice during Art Night Venezia. The performance of 21 June started with a procession through the city and closed with a show in the Giardini della Marinaressa. This event contained music, spoken word and a traditional West African libation ceremony.
