With Cricket who returns to LA 2028 Olympic Games after 128 years, the International Olympic Committee expects a huge broadcast deal in India.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has issued a tender for the LA 2028 Olympic broadcasting rights in India. With cricket that returns after 128 years, the IOC eyes a chance and an increase in income. ViaCom18 has applied Sony Sports Network to grab the Olympic broadcasting rights in Paris for $ 31 million. Now the IOC expects the bid to be in many people. The last date for submitting the tender is 13 August.

Cricket returns on a small scale to the LA 28 Olympic Games. The tournament will consist of six teams in categories for men and women and will be played in T20 format. Although there is no clarity about the qualification of teams, the IOC expects enormous interest in the bid process.

“The sport that the Indian population cherishes the most is cricket. I think we are here in a place where this is a game changer, not only for India, but it is also a game changer for the Olympic movement,” “ said Anne-Sophie Voumard, director of television and marketing services of the IOC, said CNBC-TV18.

Cricket at Olympic Games

There is an unprecedented increase in cricket broadcasts in India with the value of the media rights that jump multiple. The last Indian Premier League (IPL) was sold for RS 48,390 Crore. For the first time, IPL -Media -Rights were sold in separate baskets of TV and digital. The domestic media rights of BCCI went to ViaCom18 for RS 5963 Crore, while Disney-Star took the ICC media rights for around 24,000 crore.

As it has been established that Cricket is the cow in the temporary employment industry, the IOC wants to cash in. The return of cricket to the Olympic Games was strategic and coincided with the phenomenal success of IPL. In contrast to 2022, however, the broadcast industry in India has become narrower. After the merger between Disney-Star and Viacom18, and the fall of the sea, India now has a kind of duop oil, where Sony and Fancode are the only competitors.

That is why Sony, who recently shared the India tour of the digital rights of England with Star India, will compete for the LA 2028 Olympic media rights.

“Bringing a cricket to the Olympic sports program in fact creates a new cricket competition. So whoever becomes the winner of that bid will bring the Indian fans for the first time, cricket back to the games. So that’s our historic moment,” ” Said Voumard.

Now that India formally submit an offer to host the 2036 Olympic Games in Ahmedabad, the IOC is looking at a windfall.
