There was a moment last fall when it felt as if Cincinnati Football finally turned the Big 12hoek. A red -hot 5–2 start. The Bearcats had juice, swagger and – finally – a QB that looked for the great time. Brendan Sorby Was that guy. But then, as someone pulled the cord, the lights went out. Five straight LS later, Cincy was out of the Bowl photo and ended the season with a 5-7 record. No worse than Luke Fickell‘s 2024 season with badger football (5-7). So now, on the way to 2025, the heat on Sorsby was to prove that last year’s collapse was not the start of a trend.
Bud Elliott did not pull on 2 June thrust when he asked the question Chad Brendel ((Bearca journal)) On the Cover 3 podcast: “Brendan Sorsby returns to an attack, had a nice debut. What is the next step he can take to rise a kind of level in this competition?” Brendel’s answer touches: “Consistency is probably the biggest key.” He pointed out what Bearcat fans know too good. Brendan Sorsby started strong. But as soon as the season hit turbulence, he started scrambling – literally. Trust faded. Trust became shaky. And with a WR corps that looked like Juco Ballers, the QB got stuck and ran for his life.

Let’s not forgot it Sorsby did not come in with towering expectations. He crossed from Indiana with more potential than hype. But man, he delivered early. More than 2,800 yards pass, 18 touchdowns, only 7 picks. Add 447 yards and 9 scores to the floor and you have a legitimate dual-dreat weapon. He even dropped 478 meters on Texas Tech as if the light work was on the season opener. But those statistics did not tell the full story. When the defense was adjusted, the violation of Cincinnati could not. Sorby’s reads delayed. His happy feet became happier. And those red zone trips turned into field goals – or worse.
Chad Brendel broke off: “So I think that’s the biggest thing – that progression of ‘Now the tape is on you’, you have to beat the adjustments. And he didn’t make that great last year. I think this should be a focus for him outside the season. But the talent is absolutely there.” Translation? Defensive coordinators have cracked the code. Now Sorsby has to upgrade his software. The tools are there. But in Big 12, talent is not enough. You have to evolve week to week. Cincinnati’s collapse was not only on him, but it certainly didn’t help when he stopped trusting his eyes and started playing Hero -Bal.
Here the plot becomes interesting. 2025 is not 2024. And Brendan Sorsby does not roll with the same crew. Reload the Bearcats. Texas A&M Brander Cyrus Allen is in the building. For example, Caleb Goodie is from Colorado State – another Speedster. Add FCS Freak Jeff Caldwell – 6’5 ″, 4.4 speed – and suddenly the WR room looks like a real problem … for opposing defenses. Tight end Joe Royer’s back, brings hands and leadership. All that? It means that Sorsby finally has goals that don’t need GPS to open.
The attacking line? Revised. Five new FBS transfers that have been in the trenches. If they stand, Sorsby does not have to be Houdini to get a passage. And when does he throw? He was able to take boys who can take 60 meters to the cradle. So the apologies? Yes, they are gone. It’s go-time.

The expectation for Bearcats: Luke Fickell’s year 2
Let’s get something clear now. Nobody asks Scott Sattterfield to create a Luke Fickell 2021. That man took the Bearcats to the damn play of the college. Cinderella with shoe plates. But some people Are Whispering? Can take a Luke Fickell 2018 out of satterfield –The comeback year.
Bud Elliott hinted when he said, “Non-conference is very manageable to go 2-1 or maybe 3-0.” And Chad Brendel jumped in with a correction and a bag of context: Nebraskas not at Nippert. It is in Kansas City – Arrow head to be precise – because, well, two million extra dollars talk loudly. But even if it is actually a home game for Cornhusker, the chance is for Cincinnati to make a national statement. Just like the Fickell 2018 team, when they hinded the UCLA team of Chip Kelly in the Rose Bowl.
Chad really kept it“Bud, you might remember that you remember this second year from Luke Fickell, okay? They went to the Rose Bowl and opened the season against Chip Kelly and UCLA in the Rose Bowl. That was the coming party for Luke Fickell’s era of Cincinnati Football. They have a chance to do this again again. Scott Sattterfield. “

That 2018 season reversed the story in Clifton. From 4–8 to 11–2. From doubts to dominance. It was defensive, grim and old-school Cincy Voetbal. But more than that, it was the year that the dressing room bought. The fan base woke up. The pipeline was lit. And it all started with that season opener. Nobody asks for a CFP location. But another 5–7? No, that doesn’t fly. A bowl location is the absolute minimum for the Scott Satterfield team.
