This week on better houses and gardens, Johanna Jimmy Rees meets, Melissa takes a inspo of Melb. Int. Flower and Garden Show and Colin serves winter comfort food.
Johanna – At home with Jimmy Rees
Jimmy Rees means many different things for different people. Your children may know him as ‘giggling’, from the TV program of the iconic children, giggling and hoot. For others, he is the comedian who helped us come through the pandemic with his skits on social media. And at home he is a proud father of three and husband. No matter how you know him, Jimmy is almost guaranteed to make you laugh … and Johanna meets him to do that. Jimmy has a beautiful house in regional Victoria and he shows Johanna and talks about life on and next to the comic stage.
Dr. Harry – Dilemma of the dog door
If you thought your pet was demanding, wait until you meet Coco! Coco de Mopspug has one strict rule to go outside: her dog doorflap must be completely open, no exceptions! She refuses to push the flap open herself, so the family has to get up every time she has to go out. And with the winter here, it is 24/7 to open the flap, simply not an option. Can Dr. Harry find out why Coco is so special?
Colin – Chicken Dumplings & Pearl Barley Broth
If you are sick and tired the winter, this is your remedy. Colin makes light chicken balls with thyme, rosemary, smoked bell pepper and coriander. Served in a simple chicken broth with Pearl Barley, it is the ultimate medicine for the winter blues.
Charlie – Dale Frank Revisit
When an abstract artist designs a botanical garden, you can expect something unusual. That is what Dale Frank did 12 years ago, when he started his own private botanical garden on the outskirts of Singleton, in the Hunter Valley region in NSW. With more than 6,000 rare and beautiful plants from all over the world on more than 20 hectares, this is a huge canvas. Five years ago, Charlie and the Better Homes and Gardens – public were invited to an exclusive tour through the garden – which is rarely open to the public. Charlie has always wondered how the garden has grown and progressed over time, so he takes us back for another private tour … and just wait until you see what Dale’s garden looks like now.
ADAM – What a cheap door look expensive
Nobody is accused of looking cheap … and that also applies to your door! Nowadays, detailed fixed wooden doors can be expensive, so Adam shows you how you can make your standard ready-made door look a bit enthusiast.
Melissa – Inspiration from MIFGS: The Balcony Gardens
This year’s Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show was not only about the Big Show Gardens … There was also a lot of inspiration for smaller gardens and apartments. Melissa’s shares her favorite balcony gardens from the show and there are so many ideas here for your balcony, cover or courtyard!
Juliet – Improve and entertain
You don’t have to visit a chic restaurant to have the feeling that you are dinner there. This week Juliet gives a boring dining room a luxury look, without spending a lot of money. With a dramatic and moody paint color, plush velvet curtains and touch of brass, this room will be converted into the hottest new dining room in the city.
Adam – Does your air conditioning cost you money?
Split system air conditioners are the quiet workhorse of your house … until they stop working, usually due to lack of maintenance. But that problem is easy to solve, so Adam will show you how to do a routine service on both the outside and interior units
7 pm Friday at seven / 7TWO.
