Lewis Hamilton: Ferrari driver ‘Absolutely improves’ as a unique British GP podium record online again at Silverstone

Lewis Hamilton, Silverstone and the British Grand Prix. No driver has been more successful in their home race, no driver has been more successful in one F1 location, and certainly a few in the history of the sport have received the same level of old admiration from a crowd.

And it is the legendary house of British Motorsport that again welcomes F1 this weekend when the 2025 – Hamilton’s first season in Ferrari Red – has been reached halfway.

The last two races were won by British – Mercedes’ George Russell in Canada and McLaren’s Lando Norris in Austria – but Ferrari is the only ‘big four’ team without a Grand Prix victory for one of their drivers after 11 rounds, while Hamilton is still looking for his Maiday Podium.

But a year after gaining a ninth victory at Silverstone in the midst of the most emotional scenes of his career, what coincidence Thuisgras proves the scene of another remarkable milestone?

Hamilton determines the area to improve after Ferrari’s Austria profit

Ferrari will definitely go to Hamilton’s home race on the back of a moral reinforcement in Austria, when their under-performing SF-25 car debuted an improved floor.

Although no upgrade would probably transform the fortunes of a team from one weekend to another into what is now the fourth and final year of the current F1 control cycle, the changes that Ferrari introduced in their car last week certainly seemed a positive influence on the performance, as Hamilton and Charles Leclerc was similar.

Sky Sports F1 Pundits Ted Kravitz and Bernie Collins are talking to us through Ferrari’s ‘Big Upgrade’ for the Austrian Grand Prix.

In a weekend, Mercedes wilted in the heat and Max Verstappen of Red Bull saw his stage prospects destroyed by factors outside of his control, Ferrari was consistently the second fastest team behind champion leaders McLaren McLaren and names the third and fourth place in the race.

It was again Leclerc who was at the forefront of the Scuderia, qualified in the front row before he finished third – his third stage visit in the last four races and fourth in 2025.

Hamilton’s waiting for a stage-backing now extends to a career-stretching 13 races, but he can also point out personal progress with Ferrari’s car on his way to his fourth place in Austria.

He only qualified 0.090 slower than his teammate – which made him his first second row this year for a Grand Prix – and finished in the same position to match his best Race Finish from Imola in May.

However, it is interesting that, however, although it was Hamilton’s continuing problems that received the most attention in the past season and a half with First Mercedes and now at Ferrari, the 40-year-old left Austria and said that it was actually his racet pace that he had to work the most after the end of the 70-round Sunday.

“I will just keep working on it,” Hamilton said of his form after the race.

“I feel that I made progress this weekend.

Lewis Hamilton says that Ferrari has made ‘Mega Progress’ this weekend, so that the team has reached third and fourth place in the Austrian Grand Prix.

“I was less than a tenth of Charles in qualifying, and we found a problem by being eligible with the brakes, where I lost a tenth, so that is positive.

“I have to find just some pace for the race, but certainly improve.”

Can Hamilton retain his unique Silverstone -stage streak?

So, in the first place, what coincidence Ferrari are real stage candidates again around the fast sweeping of Silverstone?

McLaren’s competitiveness is apparently without a doubt about most tracks, and they will start again as big favorites, while Ferrari can also expect increased competition from their other two assaulting rivals compared to Austria.

Mercedes, Silverstone Polesitters with Russell and winners with Hamilton last year, the fact should welcome that the heat wave of the VK will disappear – there is even the chance of showers at the weekend – while Red Bull’s best form has been on tracks with fast curves this year.

Before all that, Ferrari will still hope that their step forward in pace of the last event will be a solid foundation to build before the further expected upgrades to the car before the summer vacation of F1 next month.

Then there is an undoubtedly ‘Hamilton factor’ to consider.

Listen back to Lewis Hamilton’s emotional team radio after he won the British doctor for Mercedes last year

If there was some doubt that the seven -time champion succeeds in generally finding something special for his annual Silverstone Homecoming – even in the context of more difficult seasons – then the 2024 events have certainly brought that to bed.

Hamilton arrived in the British doctor of last July, after he had been 56 races since December 2021 without a victory, and after only having ended up on stage in the previous 14 races, but still produced a virtuoso Sunday Drive in wet dry conditions to grab a racing win.

It was not only a record – extending ninth victory with the British doctor – the first time that a driver had also won the same race – but one that had special emotional meaning.

Afterwards Hamilton spoke: “There have been absolutely moments when you know, the thought that it was, that that would never happen again. So to let this feeling come across the line, I think, to be honest, I never cried with a victory. It just came out of me.

“And it’s a very great feeling. I am very, very grateful for it.”

The victory meant that the Brit explicitly expanded another proud Silverstone record -a stage finish that extends until 2014.
