Tiffany Hayes scores 21 points while Valkyries runs away from Storm for Win

San Francisco-Tiffany Hayes scored 21 points, Veronica Burton contributed 15 points, five rebounds and five assists, and the Golden State Valkyries ran away from the Seattle Storm for an 84-57 victory Sunday evening.

The top scorer of Valkyries Kayla Thornton went to the dressing room at 9:22 of the third quarter and seemed to keep her neck, and the team said she was undergoing further evaluation without providing details about the injury. She shot 1-out-9 and missed all five of her three-point attempts, held on two points while grabbed five rebounds. Her teammates picked up the play – at both ends of the floor.

Skylar Diggins had 18 points, six assists and five rebounds for Seattle, which came in the competition in field target percentage with 47.0 percent, but was limited to a season-last 27 percent (20-out-74) by the Gierige Golden State defense. The storm was only kept under 40 percent and shot 33.3 percent in the season opener in Phoenix on 17 May.

Laeticia Amhere added 15 points and eight rebounds while the Valkyries jumped to a fast 7-0 lead before the shot of Nneka Ogwumike on the 6: 58 marking and five of their first eight shots made for a 13-4 advantage.

Ogwumike, who played in nearby Stanford, ended with eight points on 3-of-10 shooting and seven rebounds. The storm had won four out of five.

Both teams struggled from three-point range-Seattle was 6-from-28 and the Valkyries 8-from-27.

Golden State Center Temi Fágbénlé played 20 minutes after resting for two games when returning a short absence to play for Great Britain in the Eurobasket 2025 tournament.

The game attracted some famous fans under the sold-out crowd of 18.064-Golden State’s 10th in as many home games in Chase Center-under Warriors two-time NBA MVP Stephen Curry, South Carolina Ladies Coach Dawn Staley, former storm and American star.

Valkyries guard Carla Leite missed her fourth consecutive game with a back injury.

Seattle goes on a three-game East Coast Trip from Thursday in Atlanta. The Valkyries play in Minnesota on Saturday.
