In a scoop, the Delhi government is preparing for artificial rain due to cloud sows between 4 and 11 July, aimed at reducing air pollution, CNN reported, stating sources. IIT-Kanpur is responsible for the technical activities for the first test of artificial rain in the capital.
Prime Minister Rekha Gupta-conducted government of Delhi has already received permission from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Now it is planning to induce rain when the weather is favorable. Each test, in which a mixture of nanoparticles and salt is sprayed from an airplane, takes 90 minutes. The total costs of the test are estimated at approximately RS 3.21 crores.
In particular, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had already transferred its support for the project. The weatherman also confirmed meteorological feasibility about the national capital and the adjacent National Capital Region (NCR).
How will this work?
By one News18 Report, the project will include five aircraft sorties above air zones with low security in the northwest and the outer Delhi. During the flights, a special mix consisting of silver iodide nanoparticles, jodized salt and rock salt, will be released in clouds using a special flare system. The special mixture was developed by Iit Kanpur.
According to the report, the mixture will help the formation of raindrops in moisture loaded clouds, making artificial rainfall possible.
Delhi’s Milieu Manjinder Singh Sirsa Minister said that the circumstances were not favorable for artificial rain on July 3. That is why a flight window has been proposed between 4 and 11 July. “Our goal is to give Delhiites clean air. That is why we are taking this daring step of artificial rain,” Sirsa said, as quoted by the outlet.
