‘It kills people’: why the UN says that the new Gaza Aid System is inherently unsafe

The Secretary General of the United Nations has “inherently unsafe” supported Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) supported by the US, after a series of fatal incidents on his aid division.
“Every operation that desperate citizens in militarized zones canals is inherently unsafe. It kills people,” said Antonio Guterres.
“People are killed and just try to feed themselves and their families.

“The search for food should never be a death sentence … It is time to find political courage for a cease -the fire in Gaza,” he added.

Un-Israël Gorge about the help

Israel and the United States want the UN to operate via the GHF, but the UN has repeatedly refused, questioned its neutrality and accused the distribution model of militarizing help and displacement.

Instead, Gutres has insisted that the UN may exploit its own aid distribution locations in Gaza that “are based on the humanitarian principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality and independence”.

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to Guterres and said that their army “is never aimed at citizens” and that the GHF has delivered 46 million meals to Palestinian citizens, “not to Hamas”.

A spokesperson for GHF Reuters also told that there have been no deaths on or near one of the GHF help distribution places.

More than 400 killed Palestinians

Allegedly at least 93 people were killed while they try to reach the remaining auxiliary voyages of the UN and other auxiliary partners, according to the OHCHR.
Spokesperson for the UN Human Rights Thameen al-Kheetan stated that the death toll was provided by the Palestinian health authorities and other sources, including non-governmental organizations, and was verified.
There were also reports of killing 12 Palestinian staff of the GHF “by armed men who are reportedly affiliated with Hamas”, according to the UN.

According to the information received: “A group of armed men attacked a bus that was employed by a local contract company acting on behalf of the GHF,” said the UN office of the UN in a statement.

Why the GHF is so controversial

GHF, the Joint American-Israeli program, started at the end of May in Gaza in Gaza after Israel stopped all assistance to Gaza at the beginning of March and Hamas accused of stealing help.
The UN and large aid groups have refused to cooperate with the foundation for concern that it militarizes help and is designed to serve Israeli military objectives.

The foundation runs from only four distribution sites, a significant decrease in the 400 points where the UN had previously distributed help.

It is understanding that Israeli military staff is in charge of the supplies until they are transferred to American security staff to distribute in Gaza.
The Israeli newspaper Haaretz has reported that, according to unclear Israeli soldiers, they were “ordered to deliberately shoot” on unarmed Palestinians who are waiting for the help.

The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has rejected the allegations and says: “These are malignant lies that are designed to” tackle the Israeli army.
