What are the fastest marathon courses in the US? We look at the number of qualifications of Boston, Weather and Finishers O Discover!

If you feel like running a personal best time or ultimately touching a qualification time for a large race such as Boston or London, you might be looking for the fastest courses in the US

In that case we have covered you. Remember that there are now limits on the net downhill courses!

We have removed all the Revel races, because although they are fast, they no longer count as qualifications. You will find one here for those who still want that extra speed and are not focused on a BQ, but a PR. Moreover, we have removed some of the very small races that may have a high % of the qualifications, but it is more due to whom the course is.

California International Marathon

  • Sacramento, Ca
  • December
  • About 20-25% of the runners are eligible for the Boston Marathon.

Breed as one of the fastest marathon courses in the United States, this course takes place in the winter in North California and ensures almost a cold racing day.

It is a point-to-point race with just a few turns and a net downhill of about 300 feet. The race is also friendly to Elite runners, who report that it is great for negative splits (running a faster second half than first) and running a personal best time.

A reminder that this is a Rolling Hillsbaan! You still have to be prepared for that and possibly for a damp morning. Part of the speed is who registers for this race and has brought its level.

St. George Marathon

  • St. George, UT
  • October
  • About 18-22% of the races are eligible for the Boston Marathon
  • No longer be bq -intent, but still fast

This fast course comes with the bonus of a beautiful view with Red Rock Canyons in October. Who doesn’t like a view while getting a personal best time, right?

The course has a significant net downhill of more than 2,600 feet, but that starts at a great height can be difficult on the quads of a runner.

Downhill races can help with PRs, but they are not a guarantee if you have not done the training. Make sure you spent some time Downhill Power Work.

Mohawk Hudson River Marathon

  • Albany, NY
  • October
  • About 15-20% of the runners are eligible for the Boston Marathon

It is difficult to beat October in New England, and this course does not miss – and you will also miss your personal record.

It has shaded cycle paths and a straight track, with a net downhill of 875 feet (still a qualification). The weather is usually not only beautiful, but optimal, with cool, dry temperatures almost a lock.

The sea level will give someone from us a boost from the mountains. But again remember that there is still 500 feet height difference, double the Chicago Marathon, a notoriously fast course.

Mesa marathon

  • Mesa, AZ
  • January
  • Up to 23% of the Boston runners qualify

We like a good point-to-point course with a number of simple net downhill-hardloop. This is still covered by the guidelines for BQ and it is a well -executed race.

After they raced it themselves and with many, many athletes the number of PRs still surprised every year. With great weather and easy organization, there are not many distractions or wasted time on their feet prior to racing morning.

Although the course is not the most picturesque, if you run quickly, what does it matter!

Indianapolis Monumental Marathon

  • Indianapolis, in
  • November
  • About 15-20% of the runners qualify for the Boston Marathon.

This fast, flat, urban course has very little change in height.

The weather is usually cool and dry, and many runners report that they are achieving a personal record. As a bonus, the race also has a considerable support from the audience and it often feels like a larger race than it actually is.

This has been constantly a favorite for many who were looking for one Autumn marathon in the US. We really recommend it and a smart fuel plan to go fast and achieve large goals.

Grandma’s Marathon

  • Duluth, MN
  • June
  • AVG 17% Boston qualifying times (the weather has only influenced this for a few years)

This point-to-point course is usually flat, with a few softly sloping hills. It requires runners looking for a personal best time on a picturesque path along Lake Superior, and although June can tend to be warmer, it is often quite moderate in Minnesota.

The view of the lake and the support of staff and spectators is a clear bonus and about 18-22% of the runners are eligible for Boston.

A smaller field makes this race difficult to participate and it is sold out every year. People know it is fast and has good temps, so plan ahead if you put it on your list.

Houston Marathon

  • Houston, TX
  • January
  • On average 15% Boston qualifies

This urban course is flat and fast, and the January -weather in Houston is cool, but not ice cold. The roads are paved and there is little to no height change, making it more likely that you will achieve that personal best time where you are looking.

The event is well managed and offers pace groups for qualifying times of Boston and PRs. That is why it was used for the Olympic marathon tests at some point.

Coach Amanda has carried out this course and agrees with the very flat nature. Remember that this can be more difficult for some of your hills, because you do not change which muscle groups are used!

What makes a course fast

These jobs usually have a flat area, do not have many difficult curves and take place in areas with cooler overall temperatures and lower height (ie often at sea level).

If a course is known to be fast or runners helps to make qualification times, You are more likely to run with others who are equal and competitive, That can get a boost for your mental and physical momentum when you have focused on running your personal best race.

Every marathon is a challenge, but these races are known as good for runners who want to qualify for a large marathon or have a personal record.

If you want to tackle one or both performance in the near future, some or all these marathons must be on your short list!
