Ethiopian Startup Better Auth is labeled on the “best authentication tool” after the maker, Bereket Engida, about $ 5 million picked up In seed financing of top investors, Techcrunch Reports.

Better car is an app that offers an open-source framework, dedicated to simplify how developers manage user authentication. Engida, an autodidactic developer of the African nation, increased the substantial amount for his startup of Peak XV, formerly known as Sequoia India and Southeast Asia, Y Combinator, P1 Ventures and Chapter one.

The beauty behind the genius of Engida is that the app was made in Ethiopia before he set foot in the US, it all started at the age of 18, when he started programming after a friend refused to help him build an e-commerce search app. After the landing of numerous software courts and the construction of a web analysis platform with which developers can follow the behavior of the website users, he continued to note that authentication was a problem.

In the world of apps, each must be able to manage how users register in and out of the system and reset passwords. After he realized that existing tools had extensive limitations or were too expensive to scale up, allowing managers and user roles to process, Engida took matters into his own hands. “I remember that I needed an organization function. It is a common usage case for most SaaS applications, but it was not available with these providers,” the developer said.

“So I had to rebuild it all the way. It took me about two weeks and I remember that I thought:” This is crazy; there must be a better way to resolve this. “

Engida and co-founder Kinfe Michael Tariku believed from the start that developers should be able to possess their authentication systems instead of working for expensive platforms. It is one of the various reasons Why investors celebrate it. The Native Addis Ababa started working on a Typreript-based authentication framework, making it Fool-proof for developers to build safe login, verification and session management workflows without surplusing efforts, according to Addis Insight.

Peak XV partner Arnav Sahu said that the product is the “next generation AI startups”. With their investment, better Auth is the first direct investment of the company of an African founder. “We heard for the first time about the product of numerous startups with which we worked together,” said Sahu, a former director of Y Combinator.

“Their auth -product has seen phenomenal acceptance in the next generation AI startups.”

As recently graduated from YC’s Springbatch of startups, Engida is still thinking of ways to improve the free app. Because a better auth is the third Ethiopian startup that goes through the accelerator, the developer focuses on ways to improve his core functions and implement a paid enterprise infrastructure to connect to the open-source basis. He also wants to get the startup scales without getting the sense of the product built by the community. Building a team is also in the radar, because Engida currently writes most of the code itself. “Building this not only feels important because people love the product, but because of what it represents,” he said.

“There are not many Ethiopian founders who build worldwide products. It feels almost impossible for many. So seeing that traction gives hope to other people to try to be more ambitious.”
