The president of the Nigerian football federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, has praised Abakaliki FC for their remarkable journey to the FA Cup of the President of 2025, who describes the Run of the team as one of the most inspiring stories of the tournament.

Abakaliki FC, a club that was recently relegated to the Nationwide League One (NLO), defeated the opportunities by beating the best parties, including Katsina United, Enyimba International and Ikorodo City to book their place in the final. They are now confronted with Kwara United in what promises to be an exciting confrontation.

Alhaji Gusau greeted the performance of the underdog side and noted that their performance underlines the depth of talent in the Nigerian National League (NNL). He emphasized that such surprises are part of what makes the FA Cup the most exciting and unpredictable competition in Nigerian football.

“In the history of the FA Cup, NNL clubs have proven their value, and the presence of Abakaliki FC in this year’s final is proof of their quality,” said Gusau.

“Their journey emphasizes how competitively our lower departments have become.”

Despite their relegation, Aakaliki FC has shown Grit and determination during the competition. The team insists that they pose a strong challenge for Kwara United and the success of El-Kanemi Warriors FC, which appeared from the NNL in the previous edition.

“This is not the first time that we have seen a club of the NNL in the final. El-Kanemi Warriors were there last time and won it. The NNL is a very competitive competition and everything can happen,” Gusau added.

The NFF president expressed optimism that will deliver the final on entertainment, passion and quality football. He repeated the dedication of the federation to neutral and honest competition.

“We have no preference for a certain team and we do not influence the outcome. The beauty of the FA Cup, which is our longest and oldest football challenge, is in the unpredictability,” he said.

With the last competition that takes place later this week in the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos, builds up excitement throughout the country. Football fans eagerly anticipate a historic collision that could see a second consecutive NNL team that lifted the prestigious FA Cup trophy.

The NFF has assured supporters that all logistics and security schemes are present to guarantee a successful and memorable final.
