In September 2023 he had a fatal heart attack, after eating the supposed spicy crispy in the world, as part of a challenge on social media.

An autopsy showed that the student suffered from an underlying heart condition that was exacerbated by the enormous dose of capsaicin.

Dr. James Udelson, head of cardiology at Tufts Medical Center, said earlier that a ‘significant stimulation of the heart’, for example, eating extremely spicy food, could lead to abnormal blood flow and irregular heartbeat.

“There have been reports of acute toxicity with capsaicin that caused ischemia (abnormal blood flow) of the heart muscles,” he added.

However, scientists do not know exactly how much capsaicin is sufficient to cause a fatal reaction, because it can also vary by the individual.

Spicy food and ingredients are usually arranged by what is known as the Scoville scale.

For example, ‘Pepper X’ – the hottest chili in the world – scores almost 2.7 million on the scale. The modest Jalapeno, on the other hand, only scores 5,000.

Experts have previously warned about spicy food after people have posted videos of themselves who eat extremely hot peppers on Tiktok.

A video posted by @Ramizeinn, who has 16.3 million followers, sees him eating different ghost hiroppins before he knocks down a box of milk and looks visibly in pain.

In another video, posted by @peteypappi, who has 658,000 followers, two people see the peppers to eat, but give up halfway.

Dr. Duane Mellor, a dietitian at Aston University in Birmingham, warned that eating these hot peppers could cause digestive problems and in extreme cases even increase the risk of cancer.

That is because it is known that spicy food is activated to activate acid reflux – when stomach acid travels to the throat.

“If this continues for a long time, this can lead to changes in our esophagus and this can increase the risk of cancer,” said Dr. Mellor.

This was the findings of a 2022 study that revealed that a high spicy food intake could increase your risk of esophageal cancer.
