India’s ODI captain Rohit Sharma shared the story of his romantic wedding proposal with his wife, Ritika Sajdeh. Rohit announced his retirement of Test Cricket last month and is currently not part of the Indian team for the current against England. His last performance was during the recently closed Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
Rhit and Ritika recently played in a candid conversation with Harbhajan Singh and his wife Geeta Basra Singh on their YouTube podcast, who is the boss. The couples discussed various topics, but what really captured the hearts of millions was when Rohit Sharma told about his moving proposal story. He revealed that instead of opting for an extravagant restaurant or a lush proposal, he decided to keep it meaningful and introduce her to his cricket field in the youth. He pretended to take Ritika to an ice cream shop, and she only realized that it was a proposal when Rohit sat down on one knee.
“My proposal was quite romantic. I took her to the place where I started playing cricket. We were here alone (apparently somewhere along Marine Drive). She had brought food out of the house. So I sat. I just told her to eat ice cream. I told her that there is a good in Borivali, where I live.
“It was a ground and it was cock dark and she didn’t know it was a ground. Then I had already told my friend to put something on the floor and just to catch the moment. We parked the car. Then I went on my knees, in the middle of the field. Then I introduced her,” he added.
Rohit Sharma and Ritika Sajdeh share one of the most cherished relationships in the Indian cricket. Over the years, Ritika has been a steadfast support for Rohit, even prior to their marriage on December 13, 2015, after a six -year dating. She is often seen cheering for her husband with her fingers crossed. In 2018 the cute couple welcomed their daughter, Samaira, and in 2024 they celebrated the arrival of their second child, a son named Ahaan.
Rohit’s retirement of test cricket took place just a few days before former Indian captain Virat Kohli also made the surprising announcement that he would no longer play test matches for India. Both Rohit and Kohli had previously retired from T20is last year, after the victory of India in South Africa in the T20 World Cup final.
