A popular Chinese chili sauce was urgently recalled after it turned out that not – declared peanuts contain – with a potentially fatal risk for allergy patients.
Laoganma Black Bean Chilli sauce, sold in 280 g pots, is a cult favorite among food lovers and is generally available in Asian supermarkets, independent grocers and online at retailers, including Yau Brothers, Longdan and Japan Center.
It is also stored by a few large supermarkets, including Sainsbury’s, where it occurs in the World Foods -Gangpad.
Distributor Fortune Foods LTD has issued a recall from Batchcode 18232 with a best-for-before date of 8 March 2026.
In a statement, the company said that the problem was ‘isolated’ and ‘not all units are affected’, but warned: “Persons with a peanut allergy can risk a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.”
It added: “We deeply regret this incident and take immediate steps to strengthen our labeling and quality control procedures to prevent a repetition.”
Published in a warning last night, said the Food Standards Agency (FSA); ‘If you have purchased the above product and have an allergy to peanuts, don’t eat it.
‘Instead, put it back to the store where it was purchased for a full repayment.

Fortune Foods ‘calls out the product above from customers and is advised to contact the relevant allergy -resistant organizations that will tell their members about the recall,’ the agency added.
Peanut infection can be fatal for allergy patients – exposure to only track down is enough to kill.
The Food Standards Agency said that Fortune Foods has also issued ‘a point of notification to its customers’, in which the recall is explained and shoppers instruct what they should then do.
“These notifications explain to customers why the product is recalled and tells them what to do when they have bought the product,” said it.
No other Laoganma products are known.
The FSA regularly issues allergy reports when incorrect or missing labeling is a threat to public health.
In this case, the absence of a peanut warning is considered serious enough to activate a national recall.
Peanut allergy is one of the most serious and potentially deadly food allergies, which affects about one in 50 children and one in 200 adults in the UK.
