New document offers a raw, intimate portrait of the professional rise of Barbara Walters and personal sacrifices

Los Angeles – “Barbara Walters Tell Me Everything”, a new documentary directed by Emmy-winning journalist Jackie Jesko, investigates the groundbreaking career and permanent inheritance of Walters, with the attention of the personal costs of her rise in an industry dominated by men.

Jesko takes viewers behind the scenes of the most crucial moments of Walters and offers a raw, intimate portrait of the broadcasting legend. The movie Hitlijsten Walters’ journey from groundbreaking journalist to cultural icon and the sacrifices that came to that status.

In 1976, Walters became the first female co-anchor of a Network Evening News program and joined Harry Reasherer to “ABC Evening News”. “The two had really bad chemistry,” says Jesko. “And Barbara talks about it as the worst time of her career.”

The film visits the iconic ABC specials of Walters again, where she interviewed famous world leaders and a famousness in the same broadcast. “At the time that it was extremely controversial to treat a movie star like Newworthy,” Jesko notes.

Jesko also underlines the tension between the career of Walters and the personal life. “Work was such a large part of her life that other things had to suffer for that. It is amazing what she could achieve,” she says.

From Taylor Swift, the Kardashians and the Menendez brothers to presidents, world leaders, the famous and the notorious – everyone spoke with Barbara Walters.

Jesko hopes that the documentary Walters will introduce to a younger generation that may not be aware of her impact.

“Barbara Walters: Tell Me Everything” will premiere on June 23 at Hulu.
