Not -trained practitioners offer thick jabs, butt lifts and botox in public toilets in a ‘wild west’ market market, warn trading standards leaders.

The Chartered Trading Standards Institute said there is a need for urgent government actions about non -regulated and non -licensed practitioners and treatments, in addition to where they can be offered.

It said that the ‘shocking’ locations had discovered where procedures such as fillers are managed, including ‘pop-up’ stores in high streets, cabins in public toilets and hotel rooms. It said that these locations fall outside the typical business premises and make the action difficult.

Officers found ‘unsafe and non -regulated’ fillers who can be purchased online at shoppers for only £ 20.

And they expressed growing concern about fat -leaving injections, such as a lemon bottle, which ‘have little or no regulatory supervision to guarantee their safe use by the public’.

There is also a ‘postcode lottery’ in the United Kingdom in the minimum age at which such procedures can be carried out – with young people who cross borders for treatment.

The CTSI said that lives can be in danger in the midst of the ‘large gaps’ in the regulations about who is responsible for the products and procedures.

It also said that there are no data available about how often the NHS has to do with infections and life -threatening complications when things go wrong.

The CTSI gave the public a new warning to check the qualifications of people who offer cosmetic procedures, are wary of people who advertise on social media and not to buy products to use at home.

Kerry Nicol, external business manager at the CTSI, said: ‘I am genuinely shocked by the scale of potential damage that the public is confronted with because of the alarming lack of regulations in the aesthetic industry.

‘The life of the consumer is endangered every day.

‘What is worse is that many of these non-regulated practitioners hunt for the vulnerabilities of people and the pressure they feel around the body image, they use those who are often only looking for a boost for their self-confidence or self-respect.

‘Alarm bells would ring if someone offered a tattoo in someone’s kitchen or a public toilet for a cheap price – so those are the alarm bells that we need for people who are offered in these types of institutions.

‘Action is urgently needed to combat the bad players in this sector.

‘This is no problem that trade standards can only solve, it is a government and multi-agency responsibility that requires coordinated activity.

‘A logical and immediate first step is the introduction of a national license schedule, giving the public a clear indication of those who are qualified to perform these procedures.

“It’s time for the UK to take public safety seriously and those who endanger lives, weed.”

Ashton Collins, director of Save Face, a register of accredited practitioners, said: ‘Since 2023 we have been campaigning for the government to ban liquid BBLs from the main street and to limit their administration to qualified plastic surgeons.

‘We warned that without urgent action lives would be in danger, and unfortunately, in 2024, Alice Webb Tragic lost her life after undergoing a liquid BBL procedure.

‘In addition to CTSI, we are determined to ensure that our call to limit liquid BBLs is activated.

‘Moreover, we are aimed at strengthening existing legislation that has long been able to protect against unscrupulous practitioners who continue to show off the law impunity.

“To be too long, regulations are intended to protect patients insufficiently controlled and maintained.”
