The Queensland police have confirmed that the human remains were found in rugged bush earlier this month, that of missing teenager Pheobe Bishop.
The 17-year-old teenager of Queensland was last seen on the way to Bundaberg Airport on 15 May when she did not step into her flight.
Her roommates, James Wood, 34 and 33-year-old Tanika Bromley, are accused of one count of each murder and two counts who each interfere a corpse.
The police had found the human remains on June 6 in the Good Night Scrub National Park Area, but could not immediately confirm whether it was Bishop’s body.
The Queensland police officially confirmed on Tuesday that the remains of the missing teenager were, but the authorities could not find her luggage or her mobile phone. “Research into finding more interest in this issue remains underway,” the police said.
Bundaberg Mayor Helen Blackburn said that formal identification was a “relief”, Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported. “We have waited to have the confirmation that the Pheobe was found … To have confirmed this now, simply means that we can move forward together.”
Bishop was last seen on the morning of May 15, when she was driven by her housemates to Bundaberg airport. Images that are shared online showed a gray Hyundai IX35 that rode along the Achterstraat of Gin Gin. The car model was reportedly the same as the only Bishop rode on the day of her disappearance, according to the police.
The video was reportedly from two hours after Bishop was dropped off at Bundaberg airport for her flight to Brisbane.
The mother of Bishop, Kylie Johnson, described the disappearance as completely “out of character”, especially during a week of family mourning – the death of her best friend and her grandfather. “If you knew Pheobe, you would know that she is free and loves hard! She is loyal to the core and murderer,” she said.
After the arrest of Bishop’s housemates, Mrs. Johnson posted on Facebook, “begged everyone who knows something to come forward”.
Detective inspector Mansfield said: “Our investigation will describe the facts that we believe that Pheobe was murdered and then moved her body.”
“We will claim that Pheobe has been moved more than once.”
