Vanessa Hernández, known under her artist name Nezza, sang a Spanish interpretation of the national anthem of the United States in Dodger Stadium on Saturday evening and she claimed that the team wished she didn’t.

“El Pendón Estrellado,” The official Spanish representation of the national anthem on behalf of President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1945, was sung by Nezza during the Los Angeles Dodgers match against Saturday’s San Francisco Giantants.

Nezza, who wore a Dominican Republic shirt during the performance, posted a video on Tiktok from a team employee who told her: “We are going to do the song in English today.”

“I’m not sure if that was not passed on,” the employee said in the video.

Nezza decided to sing the Spanish version anyway and said in a later Tiktok video that it was a reaction to the presence of American immigration and customs enforcement (ICE) in Los Angeles that led to protests and unrest in the city.

“I didn’t think I wouldn’t get any form of no,” Nezza said in her video. “Especially because we are in LA and happen to everything. I have often sung the national anthem in my life, but today, from all days, I couldn’t.

“I just had the feeling that I had to do it. Para Mi Gente (for my people).”

Fox News Digital reached the Dodgers for comment.

The team has also not made public statements about the protests that have been going on in Los Angeles last week.

Dodgers -Manager Dave Roberts was asked about the protests and he maintained a neutral attitude.

“To be honest, I don’t know enough to be honest,” he said, through Athletics. “I know that when you have to bring in people and deport people, all the unrest, it is certainly disturbing for everyone. But I have not dug enough and cannot talk intelligently about it.”

In the meantime, one of Roberts’ players, veteran Utility Man Kiké Hernández, made a social media post for the match about the protests on Saturday evening.

“I may not have been born and raised, but this city has adopted me as one of them,” Hernández wrote on Instagram. “I am sad and furious by what happens in our country and our city. Fans of Los Angeles and Dodger welcomed me, supported me and showed nothing but friendliness and love. This is my second home. And I cannot see that our community is being violated, profiled, abused and torn.

“All people deserve to be treated with respect, dignity and human rights. #Cityofimmigrants.”

Other professional sports teams based in Los Angeles have taken a position, including the Angely City FC of the NWSL, who gave fans “Immigrant City Football Club” T-shirts during their competition on Saturday. Players were also seen warming up with the T-shirts for their match to show support for those who protest.
