India’s new test captain Shubman Gill again impressed with a sensational hundred in the second innings of the current second test against England in Birmingham. Gill led from the front because he seems to enjoy his responsibility and another brilliant performance with the bat.

After scoring 269 in the first innings, Shubman Gill made 161 runs only 162 balls, with 13 four and eight sixes in the second innings on a successing speed of 99.38.

He showed his class and dominated again, took the attack on the English bowlers and scored his third century of the series. He has already scored 585 points of four innings on an average of 146.25.

The Indian test captain has made an abundance of records and here are five records/milestones that have reached him during his sparkling 161-run knock.


#5 First Asian Slagman to score 300 points on both innings of a test in England

Shubman Gill became the first Asian Slagman to score 300 points in both innings of a test in England. In the current second test, he scored 430 points on both innings.

No other Asian seizure has ever scored 300 or more points in both innings of a test in England. Gill also only became the third Indian fittings with more than 300 points in a single test in a Sena country. Rahul Dravid (305) and Sachin Tendulkar (301) achieved the performance in Adelaide and Sydney in 2003/04 respectively.


#4 Most runs in the debut series as Indian test captain

As mentioned earlier, Shubman Gill already has 585 runs of four innings on an average of 146.25 from just two tests in this series. With this he broke the record for most runs in a debut series as an Indian test captain.

He surpassed the former skipper Virat Kohli, who had scored 449 points in 2014/15 against Australia in Australia, which was his debut series as a test captain after taking over from Mrs. Dhoni. Kohli had the captain in just two of the four tests on that Tour.


#3 Highest Run-Uitgegregated by an Indian batter in a test

Shubman Gill’s count of 430 runs in the second test is the highest run-aggregate by an Indian batter in a test. He broke the former opener and the record of Great Sunil Gavaskar.

Sunil Gavaskar had scored 344 points in 1971 against the West Indies in Port of Spain. Gill broke a long -term record of 54 years. He was short of only 27 runs of breaking the general record. The general record is held by Graham Gooch, who had scored 456 points against India in 1990.


#2 third Indian captain with twin hundreds in a test

Shubman Gill only became the third Indian captain with Twin hundreds in a test competition. With his 269 and 161 in the current second test against England, he joined an elite list of Indian captains to have achieved the performance.

Sunil Gavaskar was the first to do this when he had scored 107 and 182* against West Indies in Kolkata in 1978. Virat Kohli was the second Indian captain to achieve the performance and scored 115 and 141 against Australia in Adelaide in 2014.


#1 Shubman Gill is the second Indian with 200 and 100 in a single test

Shubman Gill is also only the second Indian batter with a double one hundred hundred in a single test. Sunil Gavaskar was previously the only Indian with this achievement when he had scored 124 points in the first innings and 220 in the second against West Indies in 1971.

Gill only became the ninth player in general to achieve this performance and the first captain to do this. Moreover, he became the very first Slagman who scored a 250 and 150 in the same test.
