The cornerback position is an important question mark for the Miami Dolphins this season.
While the dolphins tackle the need during the NFL concept of 2025, the addition came late – in the fifth round with the selection of Jason Marshall in Florida.
“The dolphins went to the design knowing that this was a need, but their decision makers believed that this was a particularly deep group of corners and that they could find a precious stones or two if they waited for the later rounds,” ” ESPN’s Mike Graziano wrote. “Miami loves Marshall a lot and believes that it might have become a good price when it has prepared him because of the injuries that he limited him in his last college season.”
Yet Marshall only scratches the surface of what Miami needs at the position. The dolphins lack a veteran depth at cornerback – especially with uncertainty around Jalen Ramsey, who could be an exchange or could be cut.

That speculation grew when Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that several teams have shown interest in Ramsey. In the meantime, the dolphins seem to explore their own external options.
According to the Miami Herald’s Barry JacksonMiami has shown interest in former Los Angeles Chargers Cornerback Asante Samuel Jr., who recovers from neck surgery.
“The dolphins – who try to trade Pro Bowl Cornerback Jalen Ramsey – Samuel did not make an offer and did not bring him in for a visit, said a source,” Jackson reported. “But the dolphins have transmitted and said that they want to keep an eye on his recovery of neck surgery and keep in touch. If something occurs with the dolphins and Samuel, it would probably happen in July.”
Samuel played in just four games last season, limited by a shoulder injury. However, ESPN’s Matt Bowen Recently noted that a healthy Samuel would be a strong schematic fit in the defense of Miami.
“When he is healthy, Samuel has a play mentality at Cornerback and uses sudden closure speed to break on the ball,” Bowen wrote. “That fits into a Miami defense that played cover 2 last season on 27.3% of the opponent’s dropbacks, the fourth most in the competition. Samuel also has the characteristics to have a pattern competition in the man.”
If the dolphins sign Samuel, its market value is expected to be four years, $ 45.8 million, per Place.
